1. 3 (or 4): a clip on, a pedal (mounted on the board), an in-built on one my guitar multi FX, and a plugin that came with Pro tools (does that count?)
2. The simplest bass mod for increased low end response on a RAT just needs a pair of wire cutters. Give this a go: http://www.diyguitaramp.com/rat.html You can cut either end of the resistor indicated by the photos in this article; the outcome is the same.
3. Last 'local' gig was the Fireproof Petshop featuring Mike Walker on guitar, and they were one of the best live bands I've ever seen. Last 'name' band was Primus at Manchester Apollo on the Wonka tour, which was equally as enjoyable.
4. LOVE your tone rambam - nailed it!
5. 'Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me' by the Smiths takes a while to get going...
6. First time I heard Jaco was on a Weather Report Greatest Hits album. I didn't gel with a lot of it, but Birdland and Teentown were a real revelation to a player of only 3 or 4 years experience.
7. Nice! That was my very first fuzz pedal (roughly 20 years ago), and I've been through a couple of dozen since then. Just finished making a clone of one of these (purely nostalgic) and loving the sound again. GLWTS
8. My regular band has had the same lineup for about 2 years. No issues; we're a bunch of pricks and we don't carry egos. At all. We constantly 'poke fun' at each other on a Facebook page. The only thing we take seriously is the music.
9. You might get away with some Suede too, depending on the range of your singer - they had some GREAT tunes!
10.
New guitarist. . . sorted.
This. Life's too short for being frustrated with your band.
11. Top tip for anyone getting into DAW / computer recording: Get to know your keyboard shortcuts - you'll ultimately spend less time trying to find stuff on the screen and more time playing. I've used Cubase on MAC and PC, and the only real difference as far as I recall (not used a PC for a while) is that Windows used to lose USB drivers pretty regularly, and the Mac seldom did.
12. Stick some Sleeper tracks in there. I loved them. 'Sale of the Century' is a great one to play. Stick a couple of Björk tracks in there too - 'Army of me' has a neat little groove. Anything by The Cranberries / Alanis Morissette / Cardigans / No Doubt / The Breeders
13.
Someone's mentioned chorus before. What's the trick to that great sound?
LOADS of chorus, really deep and slow. Use a pick too…
14. Played it for the first time this summer as part of the set for a live classic rock karaoke band. We had a lot of fun on that particular occasion.
15. Charles Mingus & Danny Richmond and Sting & Stewart Copeland. Also Cliff Williams and Phil Rudd - simple lines, but unshakeably solid.
16.
Here goes.... Scoundrel Days by A-ha. It's probably personal, but the first time it I heard it I was in Norway (Bergen). Admittedly a bit twiddly-diddly pop in places but the songs are great with beautiful lyrics.
I love A-HA, got their first two albums on cassette somewhere. Bought them when they first came out and have been listening to them ever since, on and off. Good call Sir!
17. Nice. I kind of miss my old VT2 pedal, 'twas an amazing piece of kit. A rack mounted one would make a lot of sense, since I never turn it off!
18. Were you miking the cab at the same time? If so then you might have had a phasing issue between the two signals, which would account for the anaemic tone. I tend to use a 'low end enhancer' plugin with studio work (Waves RBass), which I never need live. Horses for courses.
19. We generally play loud because it can be fun to spread your wings every once in a while. I play loud to keep up with a guitarist who plays through a JCM800 half-stack.
20. Not exactly sure about what constitutes a 'Super Band', but Hooky's playing on Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures is cringeworthy in places.
21.
Just buy the albums Si
This. They'll sound much better, and you're not reliant on someone else's equipment. Also the artist gets a better cut of the royalty.
22. Can I just add Flea's stellar performance on 'Naked in the rain' into the mix? https://youtu.be/OY1ufFfo3tw Top marks all round!
23. I really rate D'Addarios - the .045 to .105 roundwounds do it for me. I rate them over the Rotosounds because of the extra 0.005" on the 'A' string. I play that one a LOT.
24. 'Horse with no name' is Dm - C(6/9)/E, so maybe it's a 2-5-1 without the 5. Our guitarist used to try to play it Dm - Em, but I had to rein him in.
