1.
They [s]don't sound like musicians[/s] sound like twats to be honest. If that's a genuine opinion, they have little understanding of the basics.
Fixed
2. I agree with the majority on this one. NYE is a time to be with family and friends, and to let your hair down. If you're out working then your pay for the night should adequately compensate your inability to do this. Free beer is a con - I can personally name 2 gigging musicians who don't drive, and for whom this might be an attraction. Fortunately they know the value of a pound in your pocket, and don't gig for nowt. Same reason I don't do charity gigs - everyone else gets paid for their time and effort, musicians are no different; we still have to eat/pay mortgages/maintain gear/pay for school shoes etc...the sooner venues realise this, the better the world will be.
3. I try to practice everyday - meaning I'll run the sets of my regular band (iPod playlists) or work on my walking or right hand technique, but actual rehearsal (playing with the band) happens once a month or less. We all live in different parts of the country (Leicestershire, Lancashire, Manchester and the Fylde coast), so all getting together to rehearse is a bit of a logistical nightmare. On the plus side though, everyone does their homework, and we plug in and we're pretty much gig-ready in an hour or two.
4. The album with 'Trash' on it is called 'Coming Up', and it's magnificent.
5. I'd say have a go yourself. There's loads of diagrams available on the internet to show which wires go where - one of the most useful is this one: Basses are about half way down the page... http://www.buzzardsb...g/diagrams.html There aren't any dangerous voltages or currents at play, and it's a brilliant way to dip your toe in the waters of DIY 'fettling'.

Ooh, that Stage Fright looks awesome! Just got to find 3 more lm13700 chips, I used my last one building a filter based on the FX25.
7.
It's all over the place, but IIRC the main riff is in 7/8, then it moves to 5/4 for the F#-E section and then 4/4 for the guitar solo.
Oh yeah. It's in 7. I always thought it a shame that Gilmour didn't play a solo over the 7 bit. Cop out!
8. 'Midnight Hour' (again for arpeggios) and 'A Kind Of Magic' by Queen - just to demonstrate what a major 6th sounds like.
9. We've got 2 guitarists in my metal band - one has a Gibson Explorer into a JCM800 head (practically a second bass player) and the other has a G&L Telecaster into a 100 Watt Peavey head. Much more clarity from the 2nd guitarist. They work well together though, as we can always tell what each instrument is doing.
10.
Money Pink Floyd, Roger Waters.....if i tried to tell you the mode i'd just expose my lack of music theory knowledge
I think it's B dorian in 5/4 time.
11. This. Just to highlight general bass awesomeness!
12. Eton Rifles by the Jam - great for learning your A minor 7 arpeggios. Chameleon - Herbie Hancock's Headhunters. Great foe 'one finger per fret' chromaticism.
13. Best amp for a 'P'bass? Anything. Literally anything. P basses just slice through a band mix with plenty of 'oomph' to spare.
14. I had a flyer throughout the door the other day stating that Maplins are now doing the Alesis Guitarlink Wireless system for £35. Don't know if that's of any use to anyone wanting to dip a toe in the murky waters of wireless technology though. http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/alesis-guitarlink-wireless-system-a39ta
15. Nice that. Pre-lawsuit headstock too. Definitely a lot of bass for the money.
16.
The fact that there was no expectation that I would have to dance to it was a major attraction
This.
17. not thought of using the strings to clamp it. I was planning to use some sort of capo (it's a Jazz neck, and very thin).
18. For me it would be either Rush's 'Farewell to Kings' or Marillion's 'Misplaced Childhood'
19. Recently bought this on BC, and it's an awesome flanger, but I think I'm after a more 'phase shift/rotary' sort of box instead of a flanger, so moving it on. excellent condition Yours for £15 nuggets SOLD
