1. Nice! The mirrored scratch plate looks great against the grilles and aluminium of the Hartkes.
2. Got to be 'branded', quilted toilet paper too. Cheap loo roll just doesn't cut the mustard. Or actually, it….. does….
3. These are superb, the mids mod really open them up. GLWTS
4. I had one of these many moons ago and LOVED it. Traded it in for a 5 string Hohner B Bass V (with a headstock this time) that was equally as good. VERY playable basses.
5.
Who says it isn't up to the job? It's not about the drill, If you can get a job done with it, that's what matters, is it not?
Fair point, but a professional would be expecting hundreds, if not thousands of jobs out of it. Same with bass gear. If you're touring then the last thing you need is for your gear to crap-out halfway through, with no way to repair or replace it.
6.
I had a Motorhead fest yesterday and revisited Overkill and. Bomber. Fcuk me, they were loud.
I spent a while with 'No Sleep Til Hammersmith'. Superb, but still very loud!
7.
As long as you get the right teacher, then I'd say invaluable. It's always good to get a brush-up too every now and again. Luckily I've had good experiences with the likes of Jake Newman.
Jake is an Excellent bassist and (more importantly) an excellent teacher. The two don't always go together, which makes bad lessons a waste of time and money, and good lessons invaluable. In the last 10 years I've had one bass lesson with 'steve' of this parish which was equally as good. I went in with a specific objective in mind (improving my walking) that wasn't going to be solved in just one lesson, but he opened new doors to my playing that I'd not considered before. Waste of money? Categorically no.
8. I discovered Bruce's playing late on in my bass journey, and instantly loved it. What a sound!
9. Well, I bit the bullet and sprang for the Stompbox 1G - not bad at all. I've just played through some of the presets and they don't seem half bad. Might have to try it in a mix with some of my projects later this week. Less than 50 notes from GAK.
10. It pains me to say this, but perhaps Lemmy isn't as indestructible as we all wish he was. Get well soon Lemmy.
11.
My submission: Carter USMs 101 Damnations.
I was only thinking about this album the other day. I really must dig it out now...
12. Dunno, I'm not willing to take the risk though...
13.
I used to do a Vt2-Twin-eq with headphones and line in but the headphone noise was not great so I dropped it. But I have a new headphone design now that is much better, I will try it on a VT2 and if good I will bring out a version.
...
14. A hypercardioid pickup pattern (your SM58 is cardioid, meaning the pickup pattern is slightly wider, and the mic doesn't reject as much extraneous noise as a hypercardioid pickup pattern) would certainly help the microphone to reject noise from anywhere except the front of the microphone getting to the mixer - which means you spend less time trying to eliminate it further down the line. Beyer MD201s used to be my weapon of choice for such an event, but it's been a while since I've needed to use one. Try your 58 first though, no point spending money to fix a problem until you know it's a problem.
15. Honestly, if there was a VT2 EQ with the headphone and aux in option I'd be all over that!!!! Currently the VT1 EQ is my 'don't leave home without it' box. It's my recording tool and my home practice rig. Fecking marvellous thing, Dave Hall should be knighted!
16. I'm VERY narrow-minded, and everyone is an arse!
17. Yeah, me neither. Looks beautiful though.
18.
Wow... Sounds?
With an ash body and maple neck, it'll be bloody amazing!
19. Could you not contact Masons directly and ask them to pass on your contact details to the person they sold it to - they're unlikely to give you the name and number of whoever they sold it to, but they might be prepared to do it this way round. Good luck with your search.
20. 7th fret on the A string is where it's at. Makes it TONS easier than 2nd fret D string. 'arry's right hand technique is a real anomaly in bass playing circles (but a brilliant one); 2 fingers with a really, really light touch, and plays through oodles of compression on flat wound strings.
21. Yup. I'm currently doing BVs and harmonies in my current band ('cos our REAl singer is brilliant), but I've done lead vocal and bass in a couple of projects before now.
22. Thanks Skank. I already use a master stereo reverb bus, and have bounced stuff for a while, but to run a decent amp simulator I can only run one instance. I've tried using more than that, and have even bussed guitar tracks to the same plugin (which has its limitations), but any more than that and everything goes wahoony shaped. My Late 2011 Macbook pro is feeling the strain of a lowly i5 processor. My software is fairly dated (Pro Tools 10.3.10) and my OS is 10.8.5, so they're not the fastest, but I can at least use AAX format plugins (instead of RTAS), which helps to reduce the load somewhat. Maybe I just need to find an alternative to Amplitube, as it's REALLY processor intensive.
