  1. Zoom 607 really old multi effects unit, dead easy to use and cheap as chips. I bought this to do a specific job (pitch shift) which it does, but is really too big to justify its place on my board so I’m moving it on. If you’re in the market for a tuner and volume pedal then it’s worth it just for that.
  2. I used to run my DHA kit with a laptop PSU - high current delivery and centre positive meant that they were perfect. Just make sure that you get one that's got a 2.1mm jack.
  3. For my money this has to be one of the most beautiful songs of the latter half of the 20th Century: And this one doesn't start like a love song, but it's worth staying with it. https://youtu.be/d9aDAFMjxpI?si=S1GLHdtbccHWcjPp
  4. If you using lead/tin solder you MUST use it in a well ventilated room, preferably with an extractor fan - lead does really nasty stuff to people, and it’s ridiculously easy to inhale! It flows beautifully at slightly lower temperatures than lead free stuff but it’s a cumulative toxin.
  5. Rule one: don’t talk about capacitor club, just save all of your comments and questions until the end, then let them go all at once!
  6. Just make sure that when you solder the replacement in that you solder the cathode (negative leg indicated by the white stripe) facing the same way; some capacitors aren’t fussy about polarity, these ones are.
  7. here’s John K’s version. I’ve built this layout and it’s great. The transistors were expensive (6 -7 quid each) but there are opamp layouts in the net too.
  8. I’ve got one of these on my main board - great little unit.
  9. Higher end pieces of kit often have an input transformer that is switchable between 110v or 230v for US and UK/EU markets. Different manufacturers have different ways to achieve this - the most convenient is a simple toggle switch, but sometimes it’s an internal procedure.
  10. I've spent a LOT of my playing doing 3 fingers - mainly to distribute the work more evenly. Playing night after night is easier when you don't have finger fatigue!
  11. Polypropylene caps tend to be closer tolerance - so closer to the stated value than polyester caps too, so I'd always opt for those wherever possible.
  12. I think you’re all dreadful and all the advice is worthless.😄 There, balance is restored.

    Envelope filters

I started out life with a DOD FX25 - the same one in the Flea video in the 90s. Currently I'm loving a Lovetone Meatball Clone which does everything I could ever want from an envelope filter. In the middle of all that have been a couple of Q-trons, a Q-tron plus, a mini (and probably Micro) Q-tron too, and my main squeeze for a good long while was the a clone of the Chunk Systems Agent 00Funk which is my second favourite.
  14. Bought a multiFX unit from Fryer - really easy sale and quick dispatch. Top guy.
  15. Saw this advertised elsewhere today; very much looking forward to it.
  16. The Queen Is Dead by the smiths. Superb in every conceivable way.

    DIY Effects

Beaten to the punch by Martin B. Good work sir.
  19. I tried to run this a while back in Pro Tools and it just crashed any PT session I opened it in. Took the AAX plugin out of the plugins folder and hey presto - Pro Tools works again. That was the catch for me. YMMV, and I think it was OK in Cubase though. The Plugin Alliance SVT stuff works and (IMHO) sounds better.
  20. Also Faith No More - Jazzlobber. That one's actually an improvement.
  21. Revisiting Macy Gray’s superb ‘on how life is’ album. Every track is killer! Also, it helps to drown out the navvies execrations - they’re digging up the road again.
  22. That one could have gone either way - pink torpedo or pink torpedo.
