1. Ernie Ball Flats have blue silks too, probably chrome ball end too.
2. I had one of these! Brilliant basses, GLWTS.
3. It's always a wrench when you leave a band, but if it's not right for you, and doesn't allow you the freedom to do what you want to do then it's the right decision. Best of luck for Sunday.
4. I still maintain that this Carl Thompson is one of the most beautiful things ever made.
5. I had an Ashdown head for about 2 weeks when the transformer on my Ampeg went on the fritz and needed replacing. The crappy buttons all fell apart and it kept blowing internal fuses even before leaving the house to gig it. On the plus side, the sound was great, and the DI out was really clean. The amp itself (I forget which model) was more than capable of gigging with a loud drummer and a guitarist, but given the issues I'd had prior to taking it out of the house I didn't have any confidence in its ability to withstand the regular pummellings of regular gigging, so I returned it. I really wanted to like it though.
6. I keep toying with the idea of getting one of these, namely a fretless Jazz. Since playing in a dirty heavy metal band I've not had a fretless for a couple of years, and I really miss it - especially since I've just made a Small Clone chorus pedal with a couple of mods.
7. I wouldn't sweat a couple of centimes - they are, after all, hundredths of a tone...
8. Best of British mate, I'd just echo what everyone else has said; tell them that you haven't played properly in a while and just concentrate on your timing. Everyone plays wrong notes once in a while, but there's no excuse for sloppy timing.
9. I've left bands because of guitarists not tuning. So yes.
10. Also pictured - my twin brother's 'guitar face'. Which is much less impressive.
11. You'll get pretty close with a Bassballs - I think there's one for sale on here. Edit: yes, there is: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/256693-electro-harmonix-bassball-nano/
12.
V4 with some clothes off and new EHX '88s..
Ooooofff!
13. Sell them to BCers, then in 6 months time (when 'normal' GAS returns) simply buy them back again. Simple.
14. Yay for BCers succeeding! Great gigs guys, have a blast!
15. Weather Report. There, I've said it. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Jazz in all of its various forms and incarnations, but the keyboards just sound crap. Joe Zawinul's writing doesn't really scratch me where I itch either. Jaco's solo stuff, on the other hand ..... WOW.
16. I've got the exact same ones on my main gigging bass at the moment - surprisingly good strings given that they're cheap as chips. Definitely punch way above their weight!
17.
I would suggest a new wiring kit would go a long way to solving all your problems
If only there was somewhere BC'ers could get a handmade, solderless, high quality replacement bell plate with everything already attached that would just drop in to the existing cavity... eh Kiogon? Seriously though, the 500k linear pots should ideally be 250k logarithmic for passive single coil pickups. 500ks will deliver more top end to the output jack, so this might account for the increased hiss that you're experiencing. Whilst you've got it in bits I'd recommend shielding the cavities too (including pickup routes as well) as the single coils don't reject extraneous noise (mains interference, emf etc...) as well as humbucking pickups do. If you're desperate then glue and tinfoil would do it, but I picked up some self adhesive metal foil for doing flashing on roof tiles or something similar. Works a treat.
18. Anybody had any experience of these? I tend to play in Eb tuning, so I'm a little bit worried about how floppy they'd be. My usual gauge is 45 - 105 and 'normal' round wounds are perfect for this, as I like a bit of movement in the string to bend etc… occasionally. Does anybody know what the tension is like on these, and how do they equate to round wounds tension-wise? My usual fodder is D'Addarrio or Rotosound for reference.
19. Me too. One bass (admittedly a home-made / custom Jazz bass) that covers all the basses (pun intended) and one amp that's pretty transparent (modified SWR SM400) into a Hartke hydride 410 and a custom (me again) pedalboard sees me content with all of my kit. Does it count if you've made most of the stuff yourself? I reckon so!
20. OK, what dates would be preferable to everyone? Not sure how far I can take this, but I'd like this to happen. What day / evening would everyone prefer?
21.
You must play Ebony and Ivory and I Just Called To Say. The audience will never forgive you if you don't.
And we'll never forgive you if you do.
22. Also there's For Once In My Life, Signed, Sealed, Delivered, Master Blaster, Higher Ground... You're spoiled for choice really with an artist like Stevie.
