1. Mjolnir - Thor's hammer. Sorry, I meant THOR'S HAMMER!
2. Dunno. I LOVED the first 23 seconds, then it was OK until Brian May done his bit. Bit of a hatchet job on the arrangement too if you ask me (shuffles off to catalogue slippers etc…)
3. EHX Headphone amp - roughy £35 and they're really tiny. The sound is really transparent too. If you want something that sounds a bit more like an amp then the 'Pocket Rock-It' range are good value for money too.
4. Sorely tempted by this - it's a helluva head!
5. I gigged one for the first time a couple of weeks ago and didn't turn it off all night. The scoop made my sound disappear 'onstage', but the sound out front was killer! Modded it to put the mids back in and it's even better.
6. Have you checked the wiring (or battery) on your bass and your lead? Start checking the inexpensive things first… Hope you get sorted.

8. I've found myself more relaxed about TAB recently. 6 months ago I would have said 'no TAB', but hey, if it helps less experienced players get enjoyment out of playing good lines, then who am I to be a buzzkill? One caveat though - having put TABs on parts in Sibelius it will (by default) place the notes as close to the nut as it can, that might not be the easiest or best sounding position to play the line in. One example was YYZ by Rush: the first phrase can be played at the 2nd and 4th frets, or down a string at the 7th and 9th frets. i personally think it's easier at the latter because the frets are closer together and the fretting arm isn't so extended, also you're in the right area of the fingerboard for the next phrase, when it moves up a perfect 4th, but Sibelius automatically TABs it near the nut. If you do decide to print stuff with TABs then just play them through in the suggested position, and just double check that it's not easier (or 'better') elsewhere on the fingerboard. Just my tuppence.
9. "if you're thinking', it's stinkin'" - Billy Sheehan.
10. MMmmmmmmmm, stripboard. Are you having the 'original' 308 chip in there by any chance?
11. which songs need introduction?

DIY Effects

Finished a 'Timmy' clone tonight and did some demo recordings on Soundcloud. https://soundcloud.com/paul_5/sets/jazz-bass-through-germanium Jazz bass into the Timmy into my MBox 2 Really useful little box: the Bass control is pre - gain stage, so reducing the low end cleans the pedal up a little bit, and the Treble control is post gain stage, so it'll do really thumping low-end dirt with a treble roll-off for lovely vintage tones.
13. Just boxed up and texted a 'Timmy' clone done on veroboard using germanium diodes for the clippers, finished off my stash of mojo diodes, but it's worth it. No loss of low end at all - it's definitely a transparent OD.
14. I've had some AMAZING times to Joe Satch albums - hallucinogens just aren't the same without them. Seriously though, DLR does some lovely playing. Nice to have the chops, but even nicer not using them.
15.
i might as well buy an existing clone if there is such a thing.
That'd be the Mooer Ultra-drive then. Apparently it's a DS1 with the Keeley mods - in particular the 'fat' mod for retaining more low end.
16. Yup, it's all good. Lots more presence in the mix now (well, in PT projects, but that's not a bad point of reference). I tend to play Jazz basses, so taking the scoop out of the pedal made LOADS of sense, as my bass scoops the mids out naturally - I've got to keep what I can!
17. I might have a go at a Timmy later this week… thanks for the suggestion, Nick and dudewheresmybass
18. Chord do a BOD-50 (Boss ODB3 clone) that's not bad at all. it's got a really useful blend control, and is built like a tank - cast metal case etc… http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chord-BOD-50-Bass-Overdrive-Pedal/dp/B003GSNUKU But then of course, there's the BDI-21...
19. Gigged with mine over the weekend and I had real trouble hearing myself. I might have a dabble this evening...
20. I've got a Hydrive 410 as my main cab. Does everything I need it to. I've never met anybody who actively hated Hartke kit.
21. Loud (as always) and heavy (as always). Had the age old problem of having to stand too close to the amp to hear myself, but other than that another blinder from the chaps in "Slander". Been asked back in November, but before that it's back to the shed before make a start on album No. 2 next month... Lots of compliments from punters etc… were the icing on the cake.
22. The HA500 is a much more versatile amp, with the mid control on the LH series being effectively 'cut only'. The HA will let you biamp too,so you can send low frequencies to one cab, and high frequencies to another - particularly useful if your two cabs are 10s and a 15.
