The last one I did was a complete f*** up. I don't intend to do any more 'freebies'. I think the numbers at the end of the night were something like £400 split between the two named charities, but over £2000 behind the bar. Organisers took the piss and it was pretty much a disaster from start to finish. We played well (as always) and treated the whole thing as a 'public rehearsal', but I'd come home early from a family holiday (by a couple of hours, but even so) to drive the hour to the gig and get home at 2am. Not doing them anymore. If I believe in a specific cause or charity then I'll donate privately to support them, but to do that for a couple of hundred quid fora charity then really, I'd rather just bung them the money and stay at home.

It's very pedestrian stuff, with no real standout tracks. Hell, Bono's lyrics don't even fit the melody half of the time. Mercifully it's an mp3 release, which means valuable resources won't have been wasted in producing physical copies. There you go - it's not all bad.

I used to use a "pocket rock-it" micro amp that plugged straight into the bass and had a line input for my ipod. cheap as chips, which means that you don't have to skimp on your cans. Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but I'm posting this on my phone and frankly, trawling through full threads is a pain in the arse.

Metallica when they were making '…And Justice For All." Come to think of it though, my [i]cat[/i] could have sat in on the session and the result would be the same.

Or you could use a 'text only' web browser, that'd go some way eliminating all this covetousness...

FWIW I've never really rated dirt boxes based on the 386. If you want to build a small amp then the TDA2822M does a much better job. It's a dual amp, but it can be bridged to run in mono, which also makes it louder. Here's the schematic I used for mine. 'tis all the fault of BC, and the members thereof. Also those clever sorts who design stuff to look superb and sound amazing. Mention should be made too of the sneaky photographers who tweak the image by [i]just[/i] the right amount to make them that little bit easier on the eye…. Actually, they're all at it! Curse you all!!!!!

We play in drop tuning and are in Eb throughout. My tuner says D#, but it lies...

I've opted for passive, purely on the grounds that the FX pedals I uses the most (OC2, Bass Fuzz, and the occasional filter) all play better with passive pickups. If I didn't use those pedals quite so often then I'd be all over an East pre!

I've tried flats, but I've always come back to rounds - they're the right string for [i]me[/i], and that's what's important.

I had a Hohner fretless Jazz and it was lovely - great tone and the neck felt 'right', but it was a heavy beast...

I built the Bass Paralooper too and it didn't work. It;s not just you, I think it's a dicky circuit. I've not found a blend circuit that I'm happy with yet, and I've built probably 5 or 6. It's a bit of a minefield really.
