1. Wal, '51 P bass, '61 Jazz bass, Warwick Dolphin, Rickenbacker 4001, Fodera coffee table, Gibson EB-0, Carl Thompson, Alembic spaceship, MusicMan StingRay. just outside the top ten would be something like: Sue Ryder P Bass, Stagg PJ, Squier Bronco and one of those chipboard Hohner short scales that I started on.
2. I've not seen them for 10 years, so I might be tempted by a 41st Anniversary tour. Despite it being the closest venue for me to see them at, I'll be avoiding Manchester Arena. Hopefully they'll do somewhere that sounds good.

DIY Effects

Been playing around with my BB preamp clone (Big Beefy Booster from pedal parts) recently as the 'drive' settings were a bit 'sh*t or bust' for my tastes. I've settled on altering the value of R6 (in the feedback loop of the 4557 opamp) to 2.5kΩ (it was originally 10kΩ) to lower the minimum amount of gain on the 'drive' knob, and replacing the 1MΩ Linear pot with a 1MΩ Log pot, which gives a whole lot more control at lower settings. Happy days.
4. "the girl is mine" Michael Jackson and Macca from MJ's Thriller album. Yes it's cheesy, but the bassline is brilliant.
5. True, generally it means you're in a rut with your playing
6. I'd be more interested in a 100 basslines to play before you die special.
7. Wanted ad on here? That's where I got mine, and it played beautifully.
8. I used to run a 2103H two by ten with an 1153 cabinet underneath. Lovely stuff.
9. In theory you're fine to mix impedances provided that the end result is greater or equal to the minimum required impedance of the amp. In practice bass cabs tend to either be 8Ω or 4Ω cabs, so it limits the scope for mixing somewhat. Guitar cabs can sometimes be as high as 16Ω, but I don't think I've ever seen a bass cab with that much impedance.
10. black wire of one pickup connects to the white wire of the other, then use the remaining black and white as the signal and ground wires as if you've only got one pickup - which effectively you have. the signal or 'hot' wire goes to the centre lug of the volume pot that you want to use, and the ground wire goes wherever you're grounding to - convention is to 'star ground' all the ground wires to the back of a pot together, so look for a bunch of wires all bundled together soldered to something metal - that's probably it.
11. Just been looking at the preamp schematic for my SWR SM400 and it would appear that the DI would work even with the head switched off as it's just passive components (in parallel with an opamp) betwixt the input socket and the 'direct' routing for the XLR out. wouldn't be balanced, but it might just pass signal… You've got me curious now, I'll try it later on in the week…
12. I love he look of a well played (not artificially relic'ed) P Bass; particularly Scott Devine's and Scott Thunes' Ps. I also love the look of a Rickenbacker. I do not like the feel of them though. The gods have decreed that I am a Jazz man - 'twas always thus and ever shall be. I reckon I've done alright.
13. I think he's selling an amp (or three, I'm not sure) which may or may not have a 'almost no distortion' switch. That feature sounds almost useful.
14. I haven't got any static my watch either - it's a wind-up affair.
15. That's a beauty! I'm running an SM400 head at the moment and thought I'd eliminated all my amp GAS forever. Then this came along
16. not exactly a tour though, more a residency.
17. yup, I'd look at getting the Trace fixed first, or at least getting quotes. Even if you don't end up using it (TE kit isn't known for its portability now, is it?) you've got a working amp that you can PX or sell to raise funds for a lightweight head / rig.
18.
…and a viking helmet so I don't bother with those.
yeah, 'cos 2 of those would be ridiculous…
19.
'by accident' Yeah, right. This is very obviously a special code. To you it might be two Tetleys in your splosh 'by accident' rather than the usual one, but to her it is a clear statement that says "frankly I think you are hotter than a Rolex at CashConverters, and I would like you to biff the living daylights out of me forthwith".
ah, but is she a 'two-bagger' or not?
20.
Aren't you supposed to come out with a new bass costing hundred's, if not thousands of pounds Ray? That's how the story normally goes..
+1. I expected a load of bass porn shots on this thread. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement.
21. which pedal is it? (also, I like the use of the word 'deployed' when it comes to pedals - kudos to you)
