1. I may get round to doing some recording over the next couple of nights, I'll do some demos of the MM on its own. Actually the master plan is to have seperate outputs for the J pups and the MM; run one through the fx board then combine them both at the preamp stage...
2. If you want a *significant* amount of bang for your 'buck (sorry, couldn't resist) then I'd plump for GFS kit. If you don't fancy waiting and probably paying import duty, and are still budget conscious then Wilkinson humbuckers are worth a look. I've got a Wilkinson on my Jazz at the moment and it sounds MASSIVE!
3. I've used the Ultra Jazz ones and they were excellent, can't imagine that the P ones would be any less so...
4. http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/guitars-basses/el-basses/trbx/trbx304/?mode=model should be within your price range, available in white and get good reviews too... only thing it's got a maple/mahogany laminate neck and rosewood board.
5. I've never owned one, but I've heard that the best way to get them to perform at their loudest is to max out the 'volume' knob, and use the 'gain' control to set your level.
6. Shame we can't sort out some sort of 'Rig Relay' betwixt Colchester and the Frozen North... ...or can we?
7. I'd be a bit dubious of a business that has to keep turning to eBegging (crowd funding etc...) to sustain itself.

Nux Pedals

Just ordered another 'Mod Core' for £25 off the 'bay. Buying from a UK seller this time, so at least if it goes 'mammaries rampant' like the last one then I've got a viable returns Option. Still a great piece of kit, and for the money it's easily the best Rotary simulator on the market.
9. Played some nice, big venues, but often for corporate arseholes with far more money than manners. I remember depping for a disco/funk band - nice guys, good money, tight band etc… all the ingredients for a run of great gigs, and they would have been but for the obnoxious property developers and 'new money and shouting about it' egotists.
10.
Could be the most affordable solution. Or... get The Bass Doc to do it for me. Trouble is, I'm not a fan of Jazz necks.
alright, do it to a 'P' the routing pattern will fit either…
11. Or just buy a decent jazz and upgrade it yourself with some GFS MMbuckers.
12. I'm 2 days into a family weekend away and I'm missing it already (actually I was missing it on day 1), but family time with the 2 boys and their grandparents is a worthy substitute.
13. SOLD Cast metal cased Boss Bass Chorus clone. Still got the original box and instructions. I've upgraded the opamp in this unit from a 4558 to a NE5532, so the noise floor is much lower that the original one. Looks a lot like this: http://www.nevadamus...s-effects-pedal except mine's cheaper, and cleaner… UPDATED PHOTOS
14. Check your wiring and that the earth wires are all attached where they should be. An instrument of that calibre shouldn't suffer from buzz.
15.
That's the sound I'm after!!! Going to the man-shed to hack up my Overwater. back soon! RK
16. …or you could play a proper bass with a bow…. Nah, compressor is the way forward for this.
17. That's a beauty! I know Brian, and his work is exemplary; what he doesn't know about building instruments ain't worth knowing.
18.
it could be the most expensive thing you ever buy.
too true…
19. That's a beauty, and my YOB bass too. One day I'll have one of these, but now is not the right time. Good luck with the sale, and make sure she goes to a good home!
20. Don't do it. Any fool can get a 'debtor's card' nowadays, and a marriage is worth far more than that. We wall love new kit. It's exciting and we are convinced that it will make us better players/make us sound better/cure diseases etc… but the truth is that kit does't make us play or sound better, shopping for kit detracts from the real business of mastery of the instrument; THAT is what makes us play and sound better. Sorry to be a buzzkill, but it's the truth.

Valve Warmth

Replace the valve in the VT1 with a 12AU7 and it's more of a valve pre than an overdrive as you've got a whole lot less drive on tap...
22. I was like this with effects a couple of years ago. I was searching for 'that' overdriven sound for my Jazz bass. Then one night I plugged a home made bits P bass into my usual rig and found the sound that I'd had in my head for years. I spent a lot of time looking for the right thing in the wrong place. Some would say that it was a waste of time and money, but the net results to me were: 1) I know how to get 'that' sound 2) A fairly encyclopaedic knowledge of overdrive circuits, mods and components
23. Black clothing is always very 'serviceable' when playing in a metal band. On the other hand, you tend to disappear in some venues.
24.
I'd also consider trades for either a Gibson Midtown bass or Double bass
I wouldn't, I'd keep that beauty!
