1. Not a band I've listened to before, but liking what I'm hearing! Thanks for the link.
2. I had that once, at least she said that was her name...
3. Or this looks like a lot of kit for the money: http://www.thomann.de/gb/eden_wtdi_direct_box_preamp.htm Eden stuff is very highly regarded too.
4. Yup, either of those two are lovely preamps.
5. Yup. Sadly they are no more. . Best look into servicing my SM400 a bit more often.
6. Hooray for everything - a great result!
7. +1 for the Hohner B basses. Had a couple of 5 stringers back in the day and loved them. My B Bass V (neck through with active 2 band) accompanied me up and down the country for roughly 7 years of various tours/gigs, always sounded great through the even the smallest of amps/backline.
8. I know! I mean it's a tortoise. It's not like trying to catch gamefish is it?
9. Electro Music in Doncaster have always had old Trace stuff in whenever I've been (admittedly that's twice. 8 years ago). Might be worth a call though. https://www.electromusic.co.uk/Pre-owned-Bass-Amps-Cabs-and-FX/ They're not showing any used TE gear at the mo, but I don't know how often they update the sight.
10. Not so much. Most of the bands I've left have disbanded afterwards. These days I'd rather play bass at home than see a band playing songs and arrangements that I've heard a couple of hundred times.
11. I'd favour a Gibson/copy Les Paul or SG for jazzy stuff (and pretty much anything else too) as they've got lovely, fat sounds courtesy of the rwin humbuckers, also their scale length is slightly shorter than Fender/copy instruments, which makes getting around that little bit easier.
12. A friend just sent me a link to their current EP and it's bloody brilliant; like having your head flossed with a glittery pipe-cleaner. http://thisismangelwurzel.bandcamp.com/album/dead-pets-ep
13. Surely every bass is available as fretless…
14. Nice that. I had a stoodent a couple of years ago with an Ibby 5'er and remember being rather impressed with how it played, sounded, felt, smelled etc...

Nux Pedals

My modcore broke last night. light comes on but nay sound. I don't think it's cost effective shipping it back to Hong Kong so I might just have to have a rummage, hopefully it's just the switch...
16. There's a lovely black and maple P/J bitsa for sale with some nice hardware too (mighty mite neck etc...) that looks very tempting http://basschat.co.uk/topic/228104-fs-precision-bass-special-bitsa-blackblackmaple-now-l185/page__pid__2369525#entry2369525
17. A vibrating piece of metal (string) within a magnetic field (created by the pickup magnets) can be used to induce a current. The voltage that you create governs how loud the output signal is - when you're tickling the strings you'll get a teeny weenyvoltage to the output, when you're really digging in then the voltage will be significantly greater (but still only millivolts). This is worth a watch - it's a guitar PUP, but the science stuff is exactly the same (except better) for a bass.
