1. I prefer the coloursound bass fuzz, and I went through about 12 or 13 fuzzes before I found what I was looking for. That was an expensive year...
2. If I sit on my hand until it's numb it'll feel like somebody else is doing it - will that count as an extra vote?
3. To be honest I've never found a stock Fender neck that I was happy with. The dimensions and contours were nice, but the high gloss finishes put me right off. Mighty Mite stuff*, on the other hand, is superb. *Other replacement necks are available.
4. Yup, although the European Parliament would prefer you to rename the thread "What difference can 0.127mm make!!"
5. http://www.highlystrung.co.uk/acatalog/Piezo_Pickups.html Not tried one, but looks alright, and it's only 20 Notes
6. NEVER, EVER PICKUP A BANJO! That is all.
7. Another vote for 'Pulse' here. The whole of DSOTM live is superb! Guy Pratt's playing throughout is pretty tasty too.
8. I've got a defretted Hohner HAB-10 and it's lovely. Sounds loads better restrung with flats than the phospher bronze ones it came with. They don't turn my sweat green either :-O
9. Reckon we can clear 400 by the weekend? Let's see, shall we?
10. Also, I've just received an email about the Waves 'Black Friday' event this weekend. Sign up to the event with a valid email address and receive the Renaissance RBASS plugin for free. Gratis, ada, nowt etc… I'm not an endorsee or employee, just looks like a good, good thing.
11.
I have just GOT to get me some of that valve crutch. Does it get really hot if you push it too hard?
FEEEEELTHY!!!
12. A prime-time, hour long advert that runs for 24 weeks prior to the big day and a tawdry, lacklustre pop product. Seems to work most years.
13. Reverb is a 'get out of jail' card for a lot of vocalists - it can hide bad breathing, tuning issues or loads of other things (in the wrong hands). Maybe she thinks it'll do the same for the bass; that may be her only frame of reference. I remember recording an album with an artist and I'd put the bass down, then I played some Hammond on it too. The artist heard it and said that there was something in the bass that he didn't like (it was a bit too 'dirty', so I suggested a different bass tone so we went for that. A quick rerecording later he still wasn't happy when I sent the demo off. Turns out that the 'dirty bass' bit was coming from the Hammond, not the bass guitar. Just because someone doesn't have the technical vocabulary, or experience of which instrument makes which noise doesn't mean that they are wrong, just ill equipped to communicate in this particular sphere.
14. I use mine (DHA VT1 EQ) to get some valve crutch into my tone when I'm playing with the NWOBHM band. I mainly play a fretless HH Jazz into my amp and it's lovely and clean. My amp (SWR SM400) just won't do 'dirty'. It's ridiculously well designed and (try as I might) just won't break up anywhere near as much as I need for heavier sets. It was tons cheaper to get a pre pedal than to buy a 400W valve head just for certain gigs.
15. My amp (not a Kilo) tends to make unwanted noise after I've been playing for about 10 minutes. At first I thought it was the tube, so I took it to a tech, and after a could of hours of me describing the fault (and some fairly extensive oscilloscope work on his part) we came to the conclusion that the amp is fine, I'm just a godawful bassist.
16. Facebooked this today too, so you should have a couple more coming your way.
17. AAAAGGGGHHHH. I tried trimming mine and it went a bit wonky on one side, so I kept trying to even it up and ended up with a Hitler! Deference to my left-wing ideals necessitated its removal. Sorry chaps.
18. I'm selling a Rickenbacker, and so is my wife!
