1. I'll sit on the fence and say Hydrive cabs (designed with LH amps in mind) and HA amps. Honestly, I could argue with myself in an empty room!
2.
Not happy with some of the advice so far... tapping!? WtF?
Calm down sunshine; just suggesting different approaches. Granted it's not a conventional 'normal' approach, but it works.
3.
WARNING: Too close an interest in the workings of fuzz pedals can send you wibbly-hatstand!
It's too late for me, but you can still save yourself!
4. So it's not even a proper banjo? über crap!
5. Scott's got a medical condition (Focal Dystonia) and wears them for that reason. French player Etienne M'bapeé wears them too because he's got super acidic sweat. Back OT, Jamerson never changed his strings and either used an Ampeg or went straight to the desk. DOn't know about tone shaping on the desk, but those old B15s are "thumptastic"!
6. you could try tapping the low notes or the first of the high ones. That's getting a bit too complicated though...
7. Depending on the tempo I'd play the low F# with my plucking hand thumb, and the two high F#s with my 'normal' finger technique. Hope this helps, Mel.
8. Dunno, I had to upgrade to Lion 10.8 to get my macbook pro to connect to it, so maybe not.
9. A quarter pounder for my P bass. And a filet o' fish for my wife...
10. Shot in the head? Are they still making cabinets though?
11. scratch that, I've just made one. Not bad at all...
12. Anybody got any experience of these? If it does what I think it does it'll fit right into my master plan...
13. Play a G note on the E string (3rd fret) if it's the same frequency of hum, then it's definitely a grounding problem, as they are the same frequency (~50Hz)
14.
I'm only using a single Laney 4x10" and its plenty loud for what I need - I also play with two guitarists and a drummer plus I don't go through the PA. In fact last week when I was gigging my cab was in the corner of the room there was so much bass that it felt like my brain was vibrating but I could still hear every note.
Don't put it in the corner then! That'll make it very boomy (as you've just discovered).
15. I ran an LH1000 and then an LH500 into a hydrive 410 and it was always enough to keep up with a (very) loud drummer and two guitarists.
16. For me the essentials are overdrive (just a little) and an octaver.
17. That Mark King chap seems to be able to lift his up under his chin, so his must be the lightest...
18. Hydrive 4x10 are great cabs for rock and metal, no matter what head you've got they'll take whatever you can throw at them! Deep and punchy too.
19. brill. I've just been listening to the 'working man' Rush covers album and now this! Rush-tastic.
20. It's got to at least break even, but I still enjoy it on the odd occasion that it doesn't!
