1.
Mine were melted down to build a Spitfire during the war.

A disco Spitfire, that is.
Mods, mods - this HAS to go in the famous quotes thread - I've just nearly wet 'em. Thankyou please.
2. 100% of the bassists in my house play fretless much more often than fretted basses. I do disco too. So there!
3.
This thread is rapidly turning into a perfume ad for amp manufacturers.
http://youtu.be/oPKigfGYwKE
4.
Is "treacle and cricket" good for metal?
it's OK, you're better off substituting the treacle with syrup though - it lets more of the sputum through. It also has a lower impedance.
5. If they can't find one then try Steve at doctortweek.co.uk he's usually got loads of weird stuff in stock.
6. Everybody looks like they were having fun though. That's good.
7. To my ears SWR kit sounds like silk cushions dangling from a crooked sycamore tree. Ampeg are more like a purple sofa covered in Marmite® Trace Elliott have a "treacle and cricket" feel to them Mark Bass insist on their own design of isopods wrestling in a small tray of cheese on a rainy Wednesday. Genz have a 'tin foil hat on top of a windy hill' edge. Or not. Of course all of this is subjective (taking into account lunar phase, acoustics and allowing for wind resistance). I'll get me coat.
8. There's nothing wrong with doing this. Provided that you like to run the bass with the tone control all the way up then you won't need any resistors or capacitors in here, just wire and a socket. The sound will be a little bit more 'toppy' but not by much.
9. Me too. I have a VERY heavy touch and I clank a lot on fretted basses - fortunately I only use these for rock and metal playing, and it's reduced on my fretless cos it doesn't have, erm, frets. It's like slapping; you'll be conscious of trying to master the technique and getting a lovely bouncy, fluent feel to your lines and it'll really get you down for a while. Then one day it'll just 'click'. Days like that are just awesome, so keep going!
10.
Looked at it in town the other day, nice enough book but no Wal pictures, put it down then
Au contraire mon petit soutien-gorge; I seem to recall a lovely Wal with a leather and press-stud affair in there somewhere...
11. I'm not surprised by that at all, my brief dealings with John have always been very pleasant and hassle-free. And yes, they are indeed awesome preamps!
12. what's it doing/not doing?
13. Had a hardback one for years. Lots of lovely, GAS inducing pics. Don't know about the paperback version, but the hardback's got a couple of lovely fold-out pages for some VERY special basses (I think a '61 Jazz, Pino's fretless MusicMan etc...).

15. very, very carefully. Best leave it to someone who knows...
16. My board's Ebanol and I play with rounds - it does *not* look pretty. sounds good though.
