1. I've got the Korg MS20 plugin and it's ace! Stable tuning and the ability to sequence and store patches. I think it was only about $40 too. Time was you had to buy the 'Legacy Collection' (Mono/Poly, Poly 6, MS20, Wavestation) that came with a USB MS20 controller, but they've since made the plugins available individually. Toying with the Poly6 just for the arpeggiator, but I should be less lazy and learn to program the MS20 properly...
2. I've got a Focus estate, only because I've got 2 kids (as well as gigs etc...). I drive it because, well, I can't get my amp on my pushbike...
3. If it's an analogue unit then octave up will always have an element of distortion to it, it's impossible (as far as I know) to separate the two. Shame it's bad at low octave too, as the tracking on the video you posted is brilliant. "Romantic"?
4. You could always 'relic' it so that just the 'er' of Squier are visible. That way it could be a fender if you squinted at it from a distance. When I was at Uni (doing music performance) I never had an expensive bass, and my main squeeze was a 5 string Squier P. Yes, it got some disapproving looks at first. Didn't stop half of them borrowing it for recording though...
5.
So what's the point of the pedal board if it's not coming through the PA?
the board goes through the amp's DI. Gives the FOH engineer the option to mix clean and crazy...
6. Next installment: resistors and caps all done, just the transistors and diodes to go now...
7.
If we are talking live show then always pre, give the engineer a nice clean signal to work with, they know the venues foibles better than you or I
Sage advice. I run straight into a VT1DI/EQ and send that signal to FOH. Then it's the pedalboard and into an SWR head, and a DI or mic from there. It payed dividends this weekend as there was a problem with the pedalboard and it kept making sh*tty noises through my amp - fortunately the sound engineer didn't have that through his system, so I just turned my amp off and repatched it at a suitable time during the set. Turns out a 1/4" socket on my filter had come loose. If he'd taken the DI feed from the amp (post pedals) then I'd probably have made an enemy for life...
8. Double bass on a bike? Isn't it easier to try it the other way around?
9.
Me neither. I figure if I can`t remember them, they weren`t worth playing.
True dat. Memory lapse is my 'acid test' when I'm writing music. Sing it to myself and then leave it, if it keeps coming back to me then it's a keeper. I fnot, then I've not invested any time or effort on a duffer. Then I'll get Sibelius out and do the 'dots and lines' thing.
10.
They sound great!
True dat.
11. I always thought that AC/DC stuff, particularly Bonn Scott's stuff sounded translated well to female vocals.
12. Get your guitarist to stand further away from his amp and try raising it up closer to ear level.
13. Rock songs with female vocals? That'll be Janis Joplin then. How about some Skunk Anansie as well? If you want something a bit more up to date (for the young 'uns!) you could try some Paramore.
14. Revised list - if I'm not using my amp then the absolute minimum I'll take to a gig is: Bass, DHA VT1EQ. Sorted.
15.
I've said this many times, but if they re-released the album with the bass higher in the mix I would buy it again!
+1. One of the best albums, but the 2nd worst sound-wise - Death Magnetic being marginally worse!
16. Aiming to start populating the board this weekend - I've also just discovered that I haven't got any 2SK30a trannies, so I'll probabl;y just bung in a pair or 2N5457s and hope for the best... In the meantime, here's a picture of the veroboard with the links and IC sockets on - ready for the actual components... 17. not tried them, but due to restring soon so I might give them a go. Thanks for the tip.
18. ah, the WHS Librarium... Thanks for the heads up fellas I love BC!
19. No surprises there, given that it's a Radio 2 poll.
20. Thanks Winter, been playing about with studio devil stuff and it's pretty impressive. Primarily I'm looking for guitar amp sims, as my bass tends to go direct through a VT1EQ DI, and I'm more than happy with that. I was using some of these today http://www.plugandmix.com/california-tone-642/ and they seem be pretty good, bit limited on features, but really economical on CPU.
21. Ooh, Amplion looks VERY good. Will have a proper play later on tonight...
22. Spent more than that on the download and it's well worth it. I appreciate it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I really liked it.
