1. This sounds both ambitious AND mental. Good luck to you!
2. Anybody else recording fretless bass with just a tinge of valve overdrive? I'm absolutely loving the sound of it. I'm two tracks into redoing all of the bass for a solo project (because I can) and have decided that the entire project will be played on a fretless (not so much the guitars though). As a massive Rush fan though I like my Jazz bass tones to have a little bit of 'hair' on them, so I cranked up the DHA the other night and, well, BOOM! I've finally found 'my sound'. (smug smiley). Hooray for me! Where do I upload clips to?
3.
But then you still wouldn't have a PRS... and two basses that wouldn't have the resale value of a PRS.
To be fair though, if you were having an instrument made to your exacting specs you shouldn't really be considering the resale value. Why have it made if you're even considering selling it? Even a little bit?
4. You'll love it. Don't know why I ever sold mine.
5. Super-loud Hartke amp with 3 band EQ, DI out, valve preamp etc... Looking for a quick sale, and a bit scuffed. Pictures to follow, but full specs here: http://www.samsontec...plifiers/lh500/
6. I had a 'B Bass V' that was my first 'proper' 5 string. Loved it. Sold it a good few years back, but I remember it being a great bass to play and it always sounded brilliant.
7. Try one of these - MUCH less than £90... Works a treat - you can use any pedal you like and not worry about losing low end...
8. Both of my main basses - fretless Jazz (well, Mighty Mite neck was nearly £100) made from bits of stuff, and my fretted MM/J has a 1980s Matsumoku neck from a P bass copy (free) and a £30 body. I paid £5 for the Artec SE2A from a fellow BCer and it's great. Plays better than it sounds, but still sounds pretty good.
9. Korg already rereleased the MS20 as a controller keyboard when the 'Legacy Collection' plugins came out. I reckon if you love the MS20 (and why wouldn't you?) you've probably either got an original or the plugin / controller. I Fecking LOVE the MS20 though.
10. I use a DHA VT1EQ for my fretless and it sings - it's all about the mids... Super quiet DI too
11.
oooohhh ! but, how about that for a bargain ! http://basschat.co.u...r-i-75l-posted/
I saw that too - nice piece of kit for little monies...
12.
A preamp.
yes, but I still want only one control knob on my amp. Dual concentric pot at a push...
13.
Aren't you taking about a power amp? Loads of companies make em. Still wondering what you think the greatest amp is :-)
I suppose so - you'd need to drive them a bit harder than you average bass guitar can to get the most out of them though. Something that converts the signal to line level and then into a power amp to hoof it out of the speaker would be ideal...
14.
Whichever one suits you best. In my case it's an Acoustic 220 with a 402 and 404 cab.
Also - who stocks 'Acoustic' amps in the UK? I'm a diehard Jazz bass fan and want to know what the fuss is about.
15. Dunno really. If you've got a good active EQ on your bass, and an efficient cab then you just need a box with a 'make it louder' knob. Why does nobody make one of these? Money no object - I'd probably have one custom made. (I do like Ampegs amps though - not so much love for the cabs).
16. Been through quite a few personally. Groove Regulator - brilliant; should definitely be on your 'must try' list. DOD FX 25 (and - much less versatile, and you'll need to spend some time learning to play them to get the most out of them. The FX25 has a real volume spike towards the bottom of its sweep, so best used of fast notes or in conjunction with a compressor. Q-Tron - Funky filters, but have a tendency to produce said volume spikes. Bassballs - not one that I got on with personally. Kind of fun to play with, but not the classic 'quacking' sound that most players associate with filters. Various Wah pedals - you'll lose mobility as you need to be working the pedal whenever you need a filter. Good for sweeping over long, repetitive passages. Also not good if oyu fall over a lot when stood on one leg... Hope this helps.
17. "Practice makes 'permanent', not necessarily 'perfect'" dunno who said that, but I agree with it.
18. I'm old enough to remember the days when promoters did just that - bands/venues paid for a service and (more often than not) got it. What exactly are they offering to do for you? You provide: Their wage, your music, your own crowd. They provide: the venue. I don't reckon that worth £600 though.
19.
Is there thread on this forum where you haven't quoted that yet Paul? P.S. Inventor of post-womble here. You can do it with anything.
I don't think so, but if you fond one let me know and I'll paste it in. . Some of Chopin's other quotes include "Oh I say, get your petticoats off" and "yes, it's easier to play in the nip" etc... Not massively appropriate for a bass playing forum. ...or is it?
20. "And So I Watch You From Afar" get my vote. Do bear in mind though... 'Simplicity is the final achievement. After one has played a vast quantity of notes and more notes, it is simplicity that emerges as the crowning reward of art.' Frederic Chopin
21. That's a beauty. All the best for the sale (but I wish you didn't have to, that must be a real wrench).
