  1. a small passive DI box between the bass and the amp can be had for considerably less than a new amp.
  2. It says something about players of his calibre when his worst song is a massive hit.
  3. Borrowed a 70’s Ric from a friend to record through my Ampeg rig - sounded amazing but played like a real dog. 😞
  4. The Beige stripes? probably best not.
  5. I’ve got Wilkinson in all of my basses and they do indeed punch WAY above their weight.
  6. Want to know why 'Nevermind the Bollocks' sounds so beefy? Steve Jones (the guitarist) played all of the bass parts on the album as Sid was either too wasted or couldn't play them. Maybe both. Jones only knew how to pay the guitar parts, so just played them on the bass instead which delivered a massive 'doubled' sound. 'Simon Ferocious' had no part in it.
  7. this. He was a puppet bassist who replaced the best musician in the Pistols - namely Glenn Matlock. Malcolm McLaren fired Matlock because he liked the Beatles.
  8. As has been stated (many times), music isn't a competition. Unless you're not as good as you were yesterday - then things hot up a little.
  9. Yeppers; that'll have some 'heft' behind it.
  10. This. You've got to be able to turn up (on time), do the job (well) and get out (on time) with the minimal amount of fuss to all concerned. And not be a twät. It requires a particular set of skills
  11. Let me see if I can get a friend to collect it.
  12. If it's any help I've had some great stuff from NW guitars over the years.
  13. As an ex-engineer, when you're buying tools 'Buy cheap, buy twice'. Even if you only use them once for one bass, then they'll hold their value and you'll be able to recoup some of the cost. Cheap tools just don't last.
  14. Yep. It’s definitely a ‘people’ profession. I’ve worked with some amazing musicians, but some of them only once…
  15. Yes, and we probably will again. It's all part of life's rich tapestry. I find stuff like this really interesting and educational though, especially when some of our better educated and more experienced posters dumb things down into lay terms; it's what keeps BC great.

Yes! Toxic fumes aside lead/tin is magic stuff! I trained myself to resolver using lead free as my sons were showing an interest in it, and I didn’t want to poison them slowly. I doubt I’ll go back to 60/40 now just because I’m used to lead free stuff now, but damn it was easy to work with!
  17. Daisy-chaining for two pedals is usually OK - just add up the current consumption of the two devices (it'll be underneath the pedals and given in milliamps (mA)), as long as you're not to pull too much current through the power supply then you should be OK... Edit: Just checked the specs and the Onespot delivers 1.7A (1700mA), which is plenty! According to their manuals the Spectradrive draws 250mA and the Polytune draws 45-50mA, so you're nowhere near the 1700mA limit! One caveat though is mixing analogue and digital devices from the same PSU can sometimes introduce noise, but I don't remember having that problem when I ran the onespot.
