1. I think the 'cut' for removing the head is slightly too high. Research leads me to believe that it should really have been sawn 17" (or so) closer to the body - roughly the 12th fret should do it.
2. Animato, Lovetone Meatball and a Moog Murf. I've built a couple of clones (Noobie Hobbyist) but these are WAY out of my league.
3. I used a bit of 'no more nails' to refit an errant fret (for shame) and that's been fine so far - very messy though. The best idea I've seen is to use contact adhesive and thinners, then use a craft knife to dribble it into the tiny gap between the fret and the board. Tried that too - very fiddly but smells wonderful.
4. Consolidating my two ads for closely related things. 5. I'm always up for free stuff, but getting to AnkhMorpork is a bit of a stretch for at the minute - I'm based in Lancre.
6. Yeah, I regret selling my VT2, but the VT1s are brill too.
7.
If you haven't sorted it out yet, and you can bring yourself tomorrow (Wednesday 19th) to the Comely Bank area of town, before 12.30pm, I can fix it for you in 5min.
Well done that man, and hooray for BC, we're awesome!
8. I'm loving headphone amps at the moment. Tried a couple and my favourite two are the EHX http://www.ehx.com/p...s/headphone-amp for stowing in my gig bag, but the best I've had is this monster: http://www.davehalla....uk/page29.html The Line in feature is really helpful for playing along to setlists for covers bands and it also covers all of my recording needs and does a lovely line in dirt too! Happy days. If you really want a a speaker then there's a chap selling a Roland Cube on here... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/186932-roland-bass-cube-30-fsft/page__fromsearch__1
9. Yup, Behringer BDI was the first one I thought of too. There was one on here for sale last week for about £20.
10.
If the bassline has to be root and fifths to make a piece work as a cohesive performance, then so be it.
Two notes?
11. I thought this was going to be a 'Aren't all bass players into dungeon porn?' thread. Is that just me?
12.
The Invitation compilation is fine but it is missing some real highlights.
(sigh) I thought it might be, shopping I go...
13. would be up for this if my 5 stringer sells. Should know by this evening if it's a go-er or not.
14. Aguilar Octamiser - nice and clean with a separate tone control for the octave.
15.
but if I make a digital copy of my vinyl albums then sell them, that's illegal.
You'd also be wrong in the head - don't mess with vinyl!
16. I've got the US compilation of 'Twins 1 and 2' called 'Invitation' - easily my favourite Jaco stuff, it's awesome.
17. I see he's upgraded from 'Master Guitar Bodger' to 'Master Guitar Fixer'.
18. A DI box won't boost the level of your signal massively. Some allow for tone shaping (the BDI being one) and some (the one that you've got at the moment) don't have any EQ on them - the tone going into them is the same as the tone coming out. What a DI box does is to 'balance' the sound to (in theory) eliminate any humming/electronic noise and change the impedance to around 600Ω, which means that the signal can go along ridiculously long cables without any significant loss. My personal recommendation would be one of these: http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/page42.html Really useful EQ section and stupidly low noise units - a bit more expensive than the BDI though.
19. BDIs are a brilliant backup device and loads of people swear by them. There'll be enough signal for the sound engineer to drive the channel on the mixer, so you'll still be heard in the FOH speakers. The problem would be that you'd have no 'backline' to use to listen to yourself. A good sound engineer would be able to sort you out a mix in the on-stage monitors though.
20. http://www.doctortweek.co.uk do everything you'll need for guitar/pedal related stuff. tons cheaper than Maplin and he'll steer you in the right direction via email if you're not sure of component values/types. Good quality parts too.
