1.
Phosphor bronze is about the ultimate because its hard, and self lubricating. Ali is probably a bit soft and makes your fingers go black if you touch it much, although that depends on the alloy.
Phosphor Bronze will make your sweat turn green though.
2.

That board is a thing of beauty. Well played sir.
3. Pretty much, in fact I've just sold my last fretted bass this week. I'm in the position where I can pretty much do what I want (musically), so I opted for fretless as it's a more expressive, lyrical feel and sound. Occasionally I'll miss having frets (chord stuff and fast passages up the dusty end) but for the most part I carry on regardless. I still use all the effects that I ran on my fretted (Big Muff, Woolly Mammoth, envelope filters etc..) and the differentce is negligible, I am pretty heavy with my plucking hand though, so I can still get the 'string noise' that I need for rock stuff. \m/

5. I fitted one of these ramps onto my bits P Bass - works a treat and if anything, gives me MORE attack!
6. They've also got this for shielding cavities...
7. I think the 'cut' for removing the head is slightly too high. Research leads me to believe that it should really have been sawn 17" (or so) closer to the body - roughly the 12th fret should do it.
8. Animato, Lovetone Meatball and a Moog Murf. I've built a couple of clones (Noobie Hobbyist) but these are WAY out of my league.
9. I used a bit of 'no more nails' to refit an errant fret (for shame) and that's been fine so far - very messy though. The best idea I've seen is to use contact adhesive and thinners, then use a craft knife to dribble it into the tiny gap between the fret and the board. Tried that too - very fiddly but smells wonderful.

11. I'm always up for free stuff, but getting to AnkhMorpork is a bit of a stretch for at the minute - I'm based in Lancre.
12. Yeah, I regret selling my VT2, but the VT1s are brill too.
13.
If you haven't sorted it out yet, and you can bring yourself tomorrow (Wednesday 19th) to the Comely Bank area of town, before 12.30pm, I can fix it for you in 5min.
Well done that man, and hooray for BC, we're awesome!
14. I'm loving headphone amps at the moment. Tried a couple and my favourite two are the EHX http://www.ehx.com/p...s/headphone-amp for stowing in my gig bag, but the best I've had is this monster: http://www.davehalla....uk/page29.html The Line in feature is really helpful for playing along to setlists for covers bands and it also covers all of my recording needs and does a lovely line in dirt too! Happy days. If you really want a a speaker then there's a chap selling a Roland Cube on here... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/186932-roland-bass-cube-30-fsft/page__fromsearch__1
15. Yup, Behringer BDI was the first one I thought of too. There was one on here for sale last week for about £20.
16.
If the bassline has to be root and fifths to make a piece work as a cohesive performance, then so be it.
Two notes?
17. I thought this was going to be a 'Aren't all bass players into dungeon porn?' thread. Is that just me?
18.
The Invitation compilation is fine but it is missing some real highlights.
(sigh) I thought it might be, shopping I go...
