1.
There is also some question over what gear is necessary : combos don't appear to be popular, but another post quite reasonably ponders the wisdom a 4 x 12 guitar rig in a small rehearsal space! Would an AC30/Fender twin type amp etc cut it perhaps?
AC30? still too much for a rehearsal room and expensive to maintain once the indie bands have abused it. Obviously you want to offer reasonable kit or bands won't come in though. Have you heard the Orange Tiny Terror through a 2x12"? brilliant. It'll keep up with most bands volume wise too.
2.
Two of those - er - ladies have very weird tits.
Just 2? I'm no expert but they ain't pretty titties!
3. Personally, amps that don't go too loud and air conditioning. A Well lit car par and security are a bonus too.
4. Bought an Artec onboard pre from Marco last month and have just got round to fitting it and having a bit of a play. Great communication all round and top quality gear. Great guy to deal with.
5. I've just started reading this after it being recommended to me by a fellow musician. 38 pages in so far and it looks OK. Anybody else any experience of Green/Gallwey's book?
6. we'll generally have a run-through at the rehearsal before the gig, but we don't tend to bother too much with them.
7.
You could order a P / MM style bass. Sandberg do something similar with the VM, but the MM pup isn't in the correct sweetspot.
'sweet spot'? I'm putting a MM pup in my home-made P bass this week, and from what I've read, the ideal place for the MM is 54mm from the G string saddle. Any advances before I start 'wood-butchering'?
8. I've had both - the Sansamp will give you the 'wooliness' and dirt of the SVT rigs very easily, but that's pretty much the only sound I could get mine to make. The DHA will take a bit more getting used to, as you've got the 'mid' and 'Q' control too. I prefer the DHA, as it has loads more features (DI out, line in and headphone socket) for roughly the same money, but ultimately it's your choice.
9. Boxy, ugly and heavy but great sounding, flexible and they'll run forever.
10.
Buy a bass to play not as an investment that's my advice! An unplayed bass kept for investment is sacrilegious.
playing a bass [is] an investment - admittedly, it's unlikely to make you enough money to retire on, but that's OK; I'd rather play music than make money.
11. I'd spend that money on 'thumb reduction surgery' for the two chaps who 'demoed' this bass in those videos. Fine, you can slap, but what about the versatility of the bass?
12. Like the look of this so much I'm building one from bits I had lying around...
13. Do they do promotional T-shirts?
14. That's close to my neck of the woods - wouldn't mind a PM with his details if that's alright?
15. Pair of EMG licensed Jazz pups from an AXL bass. Cheap but good - yours for £15 posted (UK).
16. Up for grabs: Charlie Parker Omnibook - Bird solos transcribed for bass instruments at concert pitch - £7.50 posted J.S. Bach for Bass by Josquin des Pres- 10 Bach pieces arranged for bass guitar, includes CD - £7.50 posted
17. Been using one of these for a while now, and it's become something of an 'essential' piece of kit. It's a great practice amp (Line in for iPod or similar) and a headphone socket that will also drive two 8Ω speakers, and the lovely tubey warmth and grit that we've all come to expect from Dave's kit. The headphone output is a little bit 'hissy' but not massively so, and to be honest, once you start playing it becomes unnoticeable. Where it becomes indispensable (for me at least) is recording; I use the DI out to go straight into Protools and then use the 1/4" output to go through the FX rig and record both channels at once - makes for an easier mixdown as I can blend just the right amount of effects with a lovely crisp, edgy valve bass tone. Both outputs have their own volume controls, so it's easy to get the right balance of output to fussy pedals (like the OC2 or ZVex Wooly Mammoth) that don't like a hot input signal. Absolutely love it, well done Dave.
18. 1 packet of Augustine "Classic/Black" low tension classical guitar strings. Still in the packet. I bought these to restring mine but the kids had 'a bit of an accident' with it, and took the concept of 'woodshedding' a bit too literally. Consequently these are surplus to requirement. £6.99 new, yours for £5 and free P and P.
19. Makes me want to be sick on it, but it looks like someone beat me to it.
