1. My first gig was the Black Crowes, so that would have been Johnny Colt touring their first album.
2. Alright - I'm in. I'll start tonight.
3. 6 hours? That's more rehearsing than I've done in my life!
4.
Get there super early as anything that's actually a bargain will go in a flash.
I there now, sleeping in my car.
5. Just listened the SunnO. I reckon if I was the chap who filmed this I'd ask for my ticket money back; it sounded like he was sitting on top of one of the generators. Worst seat in the house.
6.
I've found chordal playing can be great in smaller groups (duos and trios with drums really) as it allows you to fill out the harmonic content a bit more when the comping instrument drops out. Even just a double stop with a third or seventh in the top can sound great once in a while
Yup, tenths under a guitar solo (when playing in a 3 piece) are my weapon of choice.
7.
No apostrophe in 'videos'
True dat, unless you moonlight as a greengrocer. Like the site (and the playing too) - the layout is just right in that it doesn't look empty, but it's not too busy. Good photography too.
8. 'still trying to free up some space on the board' bump.
9. I'd imagine that finding new content for a monthly niche magazine* would be quite difficult. A 'Bass' magazine would be a better idea - it could then incorporate sections on double bass (and associated techniques) and synth bass (including programming and synthesis tips) would be easier to fill and might attract a wider readership. Just an idea. *yes, I've heard of 'readers' wives', but I'm not talking about that sort of magazine...
10. could you reduce the size of the cab a little to cut out some of the boominess?
11.
You could always say Hel"low" Welcome to the forum
or even Hi/Low. I'll get me kaftan.
12. If you need an alternative method of denoting consonance or dissonance in extended chord voicings then you could do worse than this:
13. If it's a 'fender' style bass with passive, single coil pickups (long and thin instead of long and fat), or a P bass or copy then the pot will be 250kΩ Log (A type), if it's got humbuckers then it'll most likely be 500kΩ Log. You can get them from Maplin for about a pound or a better quality pot from http://www.doctortweek.co.uk for roughly half the price. I'm not sure that there is a way of replacing volume pots without soldering. If you're unsure about the work involved then I'd recommend taking it to a reputable technician (or see if there's a fellow Basschatter nearby who has done this soret of thing before). It's not a complicated job, but it can be a bit daunting if it's your first attempt - and there's a deadline involved. Hope this helps.
14. well, not really. I've had the neck from a Yamato P Bass copy (but feels like a Jazz neck) in my loft for a couple of years and have just got a lightweight body from the Bay for £8. A local luthier sold me some fretwire and a P bass PUP and I've screwed it all together tonight. It's sat in front of me and is resplendent in its Black and Maple goodness. Waiting for the neck to 'settle in' then I can tweak the truss rod properly and stop the bow, then it's happy days. New bass - £20 all in. Win.
15. I'm going through my old Marillion back catalogue at the moment. Nice.
16.
My suggestion: play reign in blood in its entirety ! *on repeat* [s]Trouble is[/s] because it's not a very long album
Fixed.
17. Enjoyed that, kudos to you. Your technique looks a little more 'polished' than the chap who was playing with The Cure over the weekend, he couldn't even stand upright!
18. I thought this was going to be a thread about Lars Ulrich from Metallica. sh*t.
19. Been playing with a chorus pedal all day thanks to seeing them on the iPlayer...
20. Is the 2500 valve and solid state preamp? Might be worth checking the valve.
