1. Bump for the Chord Octave pedal - I've got on eon my board and it's so close to an OC2 it's quite scary. Love it!
2. Cool, glad you're happy!
3.

2 Russian Muffs and an Animato - oh my!
4.
I deal with mids by playing a Fender Precision.
Nice!
5. +1, good luck. My limited knowledge of the DB is that it's a bit of a whore for the first couple of years. Once you've wrestled it into submission it starts to get a bit easier
6. Not so much backwards - I'll have periods where I'm 'on it', and then periods where I just plateau - not creative or inspired to do new things. That can feel like I'm going backwards, especially when I'm used to moving forwards. Sometimes it's necessary to slow everything right down and analyze technique in the minutae, just to be 100% sure that you're doing everything correctly. That can feel like starting over again, especially when you're at a level where most things fall quite easily under your fingers. What you need to do in this situation is to keep focussed on the long term goal - journey of a 1000 miles and all that.
7.
Deee-lite - Groove Is in the Heart Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band - Express Yourself Herbie Hancock - Chameleon James Brown - SuperBad Curtis Mayfield - Freddies Dead Donny Hathaway - The Ghetto Rick James - Superfreak Outkast - So Fresb, So Clean Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc - killer bass line and so simple.
Beat me to it.
8. I use an East J Retro in my fretted 5 string and a home-made 3 band EQ on my fretless. I made it to work on the 500Hz, 1.6kHz and 6kHz frequencies - very mid-orientated (apart from the 6k) and it seems to be going well so far. My amp (Hartke LH500) doesn't really offer much in the way of mids, other than cutting them, so it's nice to be able to do it from the bass.
9. can't get enough of 'Superunknown' by Soundgarden this week - had the kids bouncing on the bed to it just before bathtime tonight. Brilliant.
10. Bump for the fretless, I had one years ago and it sounded superb and played beautifully. Mine was white with a tort plate, but I'd recognise that headstock anywhere!
11. I don't have a problem with my 4x10, it sounds great.
12. Be the first to raise it at the next rehearsal, but do it before you start playing. Don't shout or get drawn into any childish regiment though, this will only reflect poorly on you. Work out in advance what you want to say , and how you are going to word it. Remember this is your band and you need to cherish it, bands are about more than strapping a few chords together. Let him be the first to shout / swear / throw stuff / poo in a corner etc... it will mean that he's already lost, and the rest is tying up loose ends. Chances are the others everyone is harbouring doubts about this interloper, but us blokes will generally do anything for a quiet life, and it sounds like the band are just hoping it will sorry itself out. It won't. If he does insist on playing with you then be the bigger person; be as nice as you can to him, starting with lending him your lead, I recommend one of these:
13. I had one many moons ago and didn't think it was all that great. I seem to remember it was a bit of a tone-sucker.
14.
Who needs a rhythm guitarist anyway, bass and drums is more than enough to carry the band during solos.
true dat - 3 is the magic number!
15. It's a no-brainer, bassists are FAR more important than rhythm guitarists. What sort of musician has a title that says "I only play chords"? Imagine being an 'E string bassist' - how much work do you reckon you'd get? f*** him, and the horse he rode in on.

17. I made a bass pre using this circuit: The 330K resistor needs to be substituted for a 10k(ish) and you can take out the bands that you don't want - I just used 500Hz, 1.6K and put a switch between the caps to add 7KHz too. Fits on a tiny piece of overboard too. Also, you can sub the 741 op amp with a TL071 for MUCH less noise and improved frequency response. Have fun.
18. I'd love a fretless fiver too. GAS GAS GAS.
19.
The real question is- when's the Funk Machine going to turn up?
When it does it'll need new strings.
20.
I'll hopefully be adding my name to Jon's players list soon (but not as an endorsee)...
Cool, while you're at it you could get him to change the colour of the hyperlinks on his site; blue on black is virtually impossible to read!
21. No comic sans though - worst. font. ever.
