1. Looks like a stratocaster (copy) string tree too - nice 'hourglass' effect on the D and G strings on the headstock. Dafuq?
2.
I know there's a known issue with switch mode supplies and Dave's pedals, in that they need to be plugged in to the effect before the power supply is switched on (IIRC). I'm not sure if that is a quirk of DHA's designs or whether it applies to other pedals as well. I seem to remember Dave saying it was a high pitched whistle, and could be cured by taking the above mentioned steps.
I did not know this. Thanks for that.
3. I'd answer it like this: Me: "hello, who's that?" Mumbomachine: "mumbomachine" (or similar) Me: "how did you get this number? Feck off!"
4. I've ended up using a flat screen monitor PSU for my DHA valve pedal and it's whisper quiet - just goes to show what a clean DC supply can do for you.
5. The only thing I can think of is the quality of the buffer in the Behringer chorus - wired up like that it would affect your tone all the time. I'd certainly recommend some sort of buffer on a board, but I reckon there are better quality (more tonally transparent) ones to have permanently in your signal chain. The Boss ones are usually very good, so why not put the chorus on the second loop from the LS2? You'll probably notice a difference in the sound.
6. Bump for an identical head to mine - right down to the JJ tube. These things have power in spades and are rock solid. Lovely, lovely amp.
7. That looks lovely, stirling work Sims!
8. Up for grabs is my East J-Retro 01, awesome on-board pre for Jazz basses. Bought this from a BCer a while ago and the tags on the PCB had seen better days, so my tech traced his way through the board and carefully soldered the pickup wires directly to the board. I'll leave the wires on so that there's n soldering to be done on the actual board. I'll also re-attach the 9v battery snap which I removed to take it out of my 5 string bass (battery cavity at the back). SOLD
9. I've had a few issues with the new style 'switch mode' PSUs giving off noise, I'd recommend trawling eBay for one with a transformer (less efficient and bigger, but quieter) and get a set of daisy chain leads - I think Maplin have some cheap ones in.
10. Cool, my boys have got the exact same drum kit. They're not famous though.
11.
this sounds interesting... Do you have anymore information on the matter?
Ricks have a 0.0047µf cap on the bridge PUP to cut the bass and low mids. This pretty much renders it useless without the neck PUP engaged, as it sounds sh*t.
12. Not so much a bass that I'll never part with but a neck. It's been on (I think) 4 different bodies with various pickup configurations and is so lovely to play. It came from a 'Yamato' P bass copy (but the neck is Jazz dimensions) from the Matsumoku factory (as far as I can tell) and is just brilliant.
13. My main rig consists of the bass going into a DHA VT1 EQ and I take a DI out of that before any effects. I'm yet to have a sound guy complain about the signal (mostly because it's noise free and sounds great), then I take a 1/4" output to the pedalboard and amp - a Hartke LH500 running a flat EQ. If I'm feeling fussy I'll have the cab miked up to put the effects through the FOH, but that's a rarity.
14. I'll just get me headphones...
15. In any tube amp I'd start by changing the tubes as it's the simplest thing to rule out and doesn't require any specialist tools. Failing that it could be a dry joint or a pot that's on its way out. It might be an earth problem, but they tend to be more of a hum than a crackle. Sorry I can't be of more help, but that's what I'd go for.
16. EHX have released this recently I thought about getting one and having my Alesis midi verb 3 in the effects loop. (then play with it for 3 months and realise it wasn't getting as much use as I thought...)
17. yeah, I shouldn't like it, but I think I do.
18. It's not a Bantam connection is it?
19.
I bet he's got a tiny todger
That was my first thought, but I'm too polite... One advantage of these EERB things is that if you're playing a cruise gig and the ship sinks you can just climb on top of that and drift home. That's probably the only one though.
20. Love it. Great line, great mwah!
21. Yup, round file the plate. Should take all of 30 seconds.
22. Why these people don't just get a double neck I'll never know. Looks like a scene from 'the borrowers'.
23. There's a DHA VT1 for sale on here that would does a lovely line in genuine valve overdrive - might be worth a look. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/186367-dha-vt-1-pedal/
24. PUPS gone, just the ODB3 clone left now.
