1. Probably on "...And Justice for All"
2. I really liked it. I got into this sort of thing at Uni (first time round) and even though I'm more of a 'verse, chorus' kind of guy I still squeeze 'interludes' into tunes whenever I can.
3.
Makes a change from 60's sci-fi & post war b/w films.
I'd stay where you are - that's quality viewing! PS Hope your other half is better soon.
4. Bad thing? People liked it? Good thing!
5. erm, I think output valves need to be biased, so if you're replacing one I'd recommend having a technician look at it - preferably someone who knows enough about valves not to kill anyone (or your amp).
6.
You could load a couple of carrots in it and they's sound good with a J-Retro.
This. The East stuff is just the BALLS!
7. Bought an MXR compressor pedal from Lozz yesterday and it arrived safe and sound this morning. Couldn't ask for anything more. Really fast service and great, clear comms throughout. Brilliant bloke, pleasure to deal with. Two thumbs good! Paul
8.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that EHX were pretty inconsistent when it came to component values,
Yup, tried 2 or 3 Russian muffs in the shop when I bought my first one (roughly ten years ago) and one was definitely better than the others. I've recently bought another and A/B'ed them to discover they sounded quite different. Turns out they had different clipping diodes which accounted for the tonal variation - made at the same factory, same case and should, in theory, have been identical. It's a funny old world.
9. Bump for the Chord Octave pedal - I've got on eon my board and it's so close to an OC2 it's quite scary. Love it!
10. Cool, glad you're happy!
11.

2 Russian Muffs and an Animato - oh my!
12.
I deal with mids by playing a Fender Precision.
Nice!
13. +1, good luck. My limited knowledge of the DB is that it's a bit of a whore for the first couple of years. Once you've wrestled it into submission it starts to get a bit easier
14. Not so much backwards - I'll have periods where I'm 'on it', and then periods where I just plateau - not creative or inspired to do new things. That can feel like I'm going backwards, especially when I'm used to moving forwards. Sometimes it's necessary to slow everything right down and analyze technique in the minutae, just to be 100% sure that you're doing everything correctly. That can feel like starting over again, especially when you're at a level where most things fall quite easily under your fingers. What you need to do in this situation is to keep focussed on the long term goal - journey of a 1000 miles and all that.
15.
Deee-lite - Groove Is in the Heart Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band - Express Yourself Herbie Hancock - Chameleon James Brown - SuperBad Curtis Mayfield - Freddies Dead Donny Hathaway - The Ghetto Rick James - Superfreak Outkast - So Fresb, So Clean Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc - killer bass line and so simple.
Beat me to it.
16. I use an East J Retro in my fretted 5 string and a home-made 3 band EQ on my fretless. I made it to work on the 500Hz, 1.6kHz and 6kHz frequencies - very mid-orientated (apart from the 6k) and it seems to be going well so far. My amp (Hartke LH500) doesn't really offer much in the way of mids, other than cutting them, so it's nice to be able to do it from the bass.
17. can't get enough of 'Superunknown' by Soundgarden this week - had the kids bouncing on the bed to it just before bathtime tonight. Brilliant.
18. Bump for the fretless, I had one years ago and it sounded superb and played beautifully. Mine was white with a tort plate, but I'd recognise that headstock anywhere!
19. I don't have a problem with my 4x10, it sounds great.
20. Be the first to raise it at the next rehearsal, but do it before you start playing. Don't shout or get drawn into any childish regiment though, this will only reflect poorly on you. Work out in advance what you want to say , and how you are going to word it. Remember this is your band and you need to cherish it, bands are about more than strapping a few chords together. Let him be the first to shout / swear / throw stuff / poo in a corner etc... it will mean that he's already lost, and the rest is tying up loose ends. Chances are the others everyone is harbouring doubts about this interloper, but us blokes will generally do anything for a quiet life, and it sounds like the band are just hoping it will sorry itself out. It won't. If he does insist on playing with you then be the bigger person; be as nice as you can to him, starting with lending him your lead, I recommend one of these:
