  1. Ah, an intermittent fault. They’re my favourite! ☹️
  2. The "Green Naugahyde" album from Primus. I remember catching them on this tour and being a bit underwhelmed by the whole affair. Excellent album though!
  3. Just chop the headstock off, what could possibly go wrong...?
  4. Rotosound Nexus come in standard 4 string gauges and they make a low B as a single (.130”). They are black and also great strings.
  5. it's been a while since I did any recording with serious microphones, but I've and great results in the past with the Sennheiser MD421 or the EV RE20 - there is no proximity effect with this mic, so it can go incredibly close to the cab without becoming boomy.
  6. I really think Amp missed a trick when they released the SCR-DI preamp pedal by not having the mid frequency selector - that (for me) the best bit! Good to see an Ampeg style pre with this feature on board. GLWTS.
  7. The boy with the thorn in his side - Les Smiths
  8. I can see where this would fit musically, but it's not a sound I'd care to make on any sort of regular basis.
  9. Buy cheap, buy twice. Good quality patch cables are a must. I once A/B'ed one of my brother's cheap ones and a George L one - the difference in tone was staggering!
  10. Great to see some top-flight folk beard-fettling at 1' 35". you don't see it much these days.
  11. Not sure if I like prog or not, I like Rush, Marillion, Tool, Carnivool etc but I don’t like Dream Theater or Genesis and absolutely cannot stand Yes. Am I prog?
  12. This . My main fretless neck has been on 3 different bodies before settling on 'the one'.
  13. The behringer BDI is a clone of the sans amp, so there's no real need to do any more spends. The only real difference between the two is that the sans amp will run off phantom power from the mixer, and the behringer won't.
  14. I've got a couple in my jazz/MM hybrid basses. they're really good for expanding the tonal palette and sound great on their own.
  15. a small passive DI box between the bass and the amp can be had for considerably less than a new amp.
  16. It says something about players of his calibre when his worst song is a massive hit.
  17. Borrowed a 70’s Ric from a friend to record through my Ampeg rig - sounded amazing but played like a real dog. 😞
  18. The Beige stripes? probably best not.
  19. I’ve got Wilkinson in all of my basses and they do indeed punch WAY above their weight.
  20. Want to know why 'Nevermind the Bollocks' sounds so beefy? Steve Jones (the guitarist) played all of the bass parts on the album as Sid was either too wasted or couldn't play them. Maybe both. Jones only knew how to pay the guitar parts, so just played them on the bass instead which delivered a massive 'doubled' sound. 'Simon Ferocious' had no part in it.
  21. this. He was a puppet bassist who replaced the best musician in the Pistols - namely Glenn Matlock. Malcolm McLaren fired Matlock because he liked the Beatles.
  22. As has been stated (many times), music isn't a competition. Unless you're not as good as you were yesterday - then things hot up a little.
