3. Nothing doing 'round here. it's all guitars, guitars, guitars... "oh, we've got a bass somewhere, you can run it through this stagg guitar amp".

5. Thanks for that Andy, just spent 20 minutes browsing some of the exercises with bass in hand - thoroughly enjoyed myself.

9. Yeah, practice as much as you can privately, but until you play with a band/other musos it's hard to imagine the dynamics and sensitivity required to play (together) in a band situation. It's like a whole other skill.
10. "Love Cats" by the Cure should do alright with just drums and bass.

new arrival

Quick update. I've had this for the best part of a week now and have fallen head over heels in love with it. It does everything from warm, glassy clean tones up to really filthy overdrive. The EQ is really musical with a wealth of different sounds to dial in. The gain stage is really well designed - an input knob can be used to boost or cut the level of your bass before it hits the main gain stage, so that you can achieve exactly (and I mean Exactly) the right amount of 'crunch/grind/edge' to your sound. The bright switch is really useful to instantly deliver a more 'modern' sound (without this engaged it's got a lovely Ampeg-esque tone) and the boost function is brilliant at driving your amp a little bit harder - it also means that this pedal can be used as a valve pre in its own right. Headphone, 1/4" and DI all have their own independent output levels, so you could conceivably use all 3 at the same time and have the perfect level going to each. It's built like a tank and sound brilliant - what more could you want. Well done Dave!
15. Corridor? We used to dream of living in a corridor! I had one of Bert's books way back when I were a lad. Learned quite a lot from it as I seem to remember. Thanks Bert.
16. I've gone back to round wound strings on my fretless just because of the mwah factor. I replaced the bridge a couple of weeks ago, and obviously the strings had to come off. As a sort of bonus, the worn patches indicated where I do most of my playing - don't know why that's important - but there was an obvious amount of wear. Ultimately it sounds better (to me), so that's what I do. Eventually I'll have to have a new fingerboard, but for now I'm enjoying the sound that round wounds give me. I'll look into a hard wearing coating for it though and see if I can coax a few extra years out of the playing surface I've got.
17. I find never putting stickers on a bass really helps in taking them off. getting coat...
18. Yeah, your price is miles out - my offer of £100 is a LOT closer to the mark... ... ah well, it was worth a try. That is an absolutely beautiful bass - really got me thinking about whether I need to buy another car or not. Or even how many kidneys I actually need. Best of luck with the sale.
19. They can't afford you then. Different if it's a charity do, but celebrating the fact the at the Revolution hasn't happened yet? Nah.
20. Probably because most people still see music as a hobby, and assume that everybody doing it does it for the love of it. Not always the case.
21. Yowsa, if I didn't already have a pair of Grados then I'd be all over these like 'Lynx' all over an IT worker's pudgy torso.
22. My dBx 1066 runs after the FX but before the pre, seems to work for me.
23. 5K seems a lot to spend on a single instrument, so I'd have to say one nice bass and invest some money in a really good teacher. Effects, on the other hand....
