  1. Motherly Love - FZ and the Mothers of Invention
  2. It’s surprising how well the ‘shouting at approximate pitch’ approach works!
  3. I got coerced into BVs during my tenure in a metal band, and really enjoy doing them now. I’ve known from a young age that Pavarotti was never going to lose any sleep over my vocal ‘abilities’, but well placed harmonies can often mean the difference between a good live band and a great live band.
  4. I've avoided using a compressor for years, and tend to favour a HPF over an actual compressor. I fire mine (Emma Discombobulator) on for slap passages as it's set to a fast attack time and quite a heavy compression.
  5. One fretted, one fretless. Identical models apart from the ‘speed bumps’ - ensures I don’t have to muck about with eq settings or compressor thresholds etc…
  6. Yup. I went back to watch the video and to be fair, after about a minute she DOES play a Jazz… with the bridge pickup dialled all the way back so it just sounds similar to the P bass. Awesome.
  7. The power of equality - RHCP
  8. ...ideally one where the bridge is hanging off the ârsę end of it!
  9. I’ve just had this ad pop up on FBook - seems as though there’s no real difference betwixt the two… just so everyone knows, I’m Jazz all the way, they’re good for metal too.
  10. I can't recommend getting a phase switch enough, it's worth whatever extra you have to pay just to not have your signal (or parts of it) disappear when you're approaching a 50/50 blend. Unless you've got an oscilloscope or similar device for checking the signal phase then a phase reverse switch is a must.
  11. City of tiny lights - Zappa
  12. SVTs will play with 8Ω cabs all day long, they just won't be able to deliver their maximum power. Speaker impedances on amps are MINIMUM ratings. Bigger number good, smaller number bad. Very bad.
  13. I was planning to either increase the value of the input cap to reduce bass loss, or squeeze a looper circuit in there for parallel compression fun.
  14. Probably 1990 to 2000 for me - I transitioned from teenager to 20 something in this decade, so I went to and played loads of gigs. Everything from Grunge, to Britpop via the American Alt Rock scene (Primus, RHCP, Tool etc...) and some great thrash metal albums still kicking about.
  15. What a timely thread - I've built an Emma Transmorgrifier on strip board and am really enjoying that for squashing my slap sections, but I'm planning to build a DOD 280 just to see if I prefer an optical compressor, as I've recently switched over from an OTA envelope filter (Chunk Systems Agent 00Funk) to an optical one (Meatball), so I wonder if the difference is as noticeable in compression circuits.
  16. Ten trenches deep - the Wonderstuff
  17. Me too, got a set on my P bass bitsa; much more flexible than rotosounds and sound great too
  18. I know, it's just that they're really, really loud.
  19. SVT and a fridge? They did know that Bonzo wasn't actually playing, right?
  20. I first played bass at age 17. Last week I was 48, so anytime now...
  21. No gig for me, so spent some time reading through some Queen classics.
  22. Cool, glad you got sorted. Thanks for posting the diagram too, might be useful to another BCer!
  23. on/on/on DPDT switches are labelled like this: 1 4 2 5 3 6 and in the centre position will only connect 1 to 2 and 5 to 6, so I'd put the first single coil across pins 1 and 4 and the second coil to 3 and 6, then the output to the volume pot or preamp as 2 and 5, that way it'll run single/parallel/single.
