1.
Hope the sound quality is better than the DVD, it's dire. I watched the DVD last night
Check the sound settings in the DVD menu - apparently it was coded wrong. By default it goes to Dolby 5.1 (IIRC) instead of 2.1 stereo.
  2. I've just spent 2 hours or so listening to Zep albums (mainly "BBC sessions") off the back of this thread and yes, Bonzo was a monster! I'm a huge Rush fan too, so in Neil's defence what he does with Rush is perfect for them, but probably out of place in Zep. Similarly Bonham wouldn't be as effective a drummer in a band like 'Rush'. Horses for courses really.
  3.
Yeah I like Jazz basses but they'd be better with one volume and a blend wouldn't they?
What, like a Blade?

    new arrival

Just 'won' this on the 'bay. Suffice to say I'm very excited... I've had a VT2 EQ before this and it was a bit much, so I mistakenly moved it on and regretted it fairly soon after. Happy days again. Ooooooohhhhh.
  5.
by the way those Blades are killer instruments
Yeah, I bought it 'on spec' after playing my tutor's at Uni a few years previous. Fell in love with it the day it arrived and were it not against God's holy law, i'd make it my wife.
  6. firstly it's the feel of the neck - neither of mine (Bitsa Jazz and Blade 5 string) are high-glossed, and I'm much happier with that. They sound great too, but I've gone the opposite way about it than you -John East press all the way baby. I can dial in 'my sound' no matter what amp I'm using. They've both got at the lovely 'growl' in spades too. . Excuse me, I must go and play one of them...
  7. what sort of stuff is it for, and what do you already have?
  8.
Or 'one lady owner - vicar's wife'...
...I could tell you a tale - I'm going to the bad fire for sure.
  9. I reckon it's the other way around - a 'P' bass has a noticeable hump in the midrange, so it is more apparent in most mixes, the Jazz has an inbuilt 'mid-scoop' due to the phasing of the pickups. All of this can be altered/changed outboard with amps, effects, wang, EQ etc... The big difference as a player is that the neck on a 'P' bass is a bit fatter, with the Jazz necks traditionally having a slimmer profile.
  10.
Nothing wrong with a guitarist being a Malmsteen fan - if you listen to him, Yngwie is a breathtaking player and actually very musical....
If you like Bach compositions played too fast; the Liverpool Phil does the same thing...
  11. yup, definitely like the second more than the first. Great idea.
  12.
I'm aiming to get 6 micro pedals (1590A format) onto a pedaltrain nano so mine will be somewhat smaller than that
small, but beautiful.
  13.
It has no right to be this good:
fixed! Goblin cock - they're on my list.
  14. 'Time Machine tour' album by Rush. ...and doing the ironing.
  15. 3 tone scumburst. getting coat...
  16.
What's the mod on the DOD?
took the original LED out and replaced it with a switch (SPDT if I remember) to switch between two different values of resistor to toggle between the original tone (lacking in top end for my tastes - R21,was 22K ) and roughly halved the value in the other side to dive a toppy, squelchy sort of sound. C11 (IIRC) value was reduced (from 15uf to roughly half of that) to speed up the decay time of the envelope and I drilled out the 'O' in 'envelope' to fit a new LED. All of the parts are clearly labelled on the board, so you don't even need to be able to read a schematic to do this. C11 is polarised though, so you'll have to make sure that you put the new one in the right way around...
  17. nope, Short scale hoihner 'P' bass copy. Chipboard body and a slightly pointy headstock with bridge screws that dug into whatever part of you touched it - one of the reasons I play fingerstlye now, as I couldn't rest my hand on it when playing with a pick. What more could you want for £70? a bit like this one, but mine was shittier.
  18.
Not anymore mate. Rickenbackers are banned on Basschat now.
the fake ones seem to get a bit of attention though. Maybe Geddy should start trawling the 'bay!
  19. Blimey! £1K+ and it's not shielded? if you shield it yourself does it invalidate the warranty though?
  20. Hi All, I've just found this on Facebook - it's a band that I set up about 3 years ago, I wrote the stuff and we self-produced an EP that ultimately didn't do anything as we split up before we really gigged anywhere. Thought you might like to have a butchers anyway. http://www.michaelboothfilm.com/the-uprising-by-the-callers/ Enjoy.
  21.
Thats a very cheap flanger, the first pedal I bought, probably in 1995. Its got a missing battery cover and is held together with gaffa tape from some over enthusiastic stomping as a teenager but Im strangely attached to it.
Hooray for cheap, sentimentally worthwhile FX pedals.
  22. Recorder first, then keys and piano, then guitar, then drums, then Bass. Then mandolin but mainly bass.
