1.
Or he's been listening to early Led Zep and Rush, where they used to double the lines on Guitar and bass.
+1,000,000. It's not always a bad thing then is it?
  2.
I'd be grateful if the mac owners could post their advice re: sophos and other apps they're aware of for mac as there was some great advice in some of the responses.
So would I, I read the thread about the DoS attack, and ultimately this is our site, and most of us [s]waste[/s] spend inordinate amounts of time on here, so taking the trouble to install a tiny piece of software will benefit all of us. I didn't see anything for Mac though, and even though it's been an ivory tower for a while the increased market share of Mac users has inevitably attracted the attentions of the 'bad sort of nerd'. Is a Firewall enough for now, or should I be looking for something bit more specific, particularly as I run my machine on an administrator account?
  3. 'cos he doesn't actually listen to music and isn't able to differentiate between what the bass and guitar do?
  4. It's all gone - everything.
  5. I'd go for Flea's effort on this - starts about 2'24"
  6.

TOP, TOP tune! Thanks for posting.
  7. stick a 250K pot going to ground just before the output jack - should send any unwanted signal to ground.

    Texas Jazz?
It's actually a US based custom build shop, although I've never seen any of their gear over here. http://www.texascustoms.us/id20.html
I just checked out their stuff. The sound clips sound like 8bit lift music played underwater in next door's pool. Not a great way to sell a musical instrument...
  9. dunno, if it's someone else's project then I'll play whatever is needed and yes, that can mean changing basses for sections of the same song. If it's my stuff though I want 'my sound' on each track, so there's a lot less changing - often just between fretted and fretless Jazz basses.
  10. Sue Ryder 'P' and blow the rest on hookers, jelly babies, good coffee etc... Nah, seriously though, with that sort of budget I'd take Bigredx's advice and treat yourself to a roadtrip...
  11.
MB1. Pantherairsoft is after some in "items wanted"
He's always after George L cables - I reckon he's eating them.
  12.
This is always the correct answer.
True dat.
  13. The heel is 64mm wide (at its widest point and slims down to 60mm going into the neck proper.
  14.
I think effects on double bass are super-cool ( awwwww yeahhhhh)
First thing that I thought of when I read the topic of this thread - this album in particular is amazing.
  15.
whats the width at the heel of the neck?
I'll have a look tonight.
  16. The best (uncoloured) headphone amp I've had so far is the EHX Headphone amp, really compact and clean. It's made of metal too, so VERY not plasticky.
  17.
And I want to play with her maracas...
easy now, down with that sort of thing. Kid's obviously put some work into that, and I enjoyed his playing.
  18.
Make them an offer for the bass, perhaps you can get it for a low price!
You could explain that your uncle has room in his loft for it, and you're buying it as a gift...
  19. Played at a friend's wedding this morning. Lovely do, beautiful old (and I mean old) church, unfortunately it had old wiring to boot. Tried a new mixer that I borrowed from a mate at work and stuff just whistled. Pulled my 30 year old studiomaster out of the boot and 5 minutes later we've got a great, clear sound. All in all, a good do.
  20.
its good practice to always have the tuner as the first box in the signal chain - that way you can ensure that the tuner receives the cleanest signal which means most accurate tuning
Aah, mine is later in the chain, does this explain some of my fretless 'moments'?
  21. Lovely offer, but distance and gigs permit me from popping round.
  22.
It's not really a case of what is being reviewed that bothers me, it's the fact that practically everything gets a pretty positive review. I mainly buy it for the backpage stuff, the lessons and the like. I think the section on other bassists from not very well known bands is a pretty good section, gives coverage for quiet promising acts and opens up readers to new music.
All of this. I used to enjoy the technique stuff when there was a bit more variation (solo bass arrangements, more theory based stuff), but now I've outgrown the cycle of funk / learn to read music / triad shapes that seem to frequent bass magazines. That's my fault though, not BGMs.
  23. we got a load of Carlsbro things for our BTEC course. Our students still managed to kill some of them , but most remained intact. We don't deliver BTEC anymore and this is one of the reasons why.
  24. Yeah, I'd give the flea bass a WIIIIIIDDDDEEEE berth. £200 will get you a really good squire VM Jazz bass which is a far better bass in terms of playability, sounds, feel - pretty much everything
