1. I used to play Mandolin - this weekend I came into the lounge to find my two boys standing next to what can only be described as 'Mandolin Segments'. Not good.
2. It's already been posted, but IMO 'Good Vibrations' is the best pop single ever - sheer brilliance.
3. Duly noted. Thanks for that ezbass.
4. Mastering should be about ensuring parity between the volume of each track. Unfortunately these days it's about sucking all of the dynamic variations in the playing and JUST MAKING IT ALL REALLY, REALLY LOUD, BECAUSE THAT"S BETTER INNIT? .
5. Actually, they both look loads better..... if I close my eyes.
6. Hi all, been doing a lot of gigs lately and am the size of my current rig is starting to get me down. Sansamp BDDI - Ampeg SVP1550 into a Hartke Hydrive 410. Don't get me wrong, it sounds great and have spades of power, but I wish it was smaller and lighter. MUCH smaller and lighter. Does anyone know how a PJB combo would compare to my current behemoth? Specifically looking at the CUB or Briefcase.
7. Tempted by this, not too far from the People's Republic of Mancunia either... Damnit GAS!
8.
Johnny Marr - The Smiths
This. Also Alex Lifeson and Andy Summers - that fella from 'the Police'- brilliant rhythm work.
9. second night of 'we will rock you' at college - lots of energy and better performances from everybody. same again tonight...
10. Also it can make a difference where you fret the notes. Further up the neck is preferred, as the harmonic content / overtones make it easier for pedals to track them - certainly true of octave pedals, so might be worth a punt with the SYB3. For example, instead of playing 'C' at 3rd fret on the 'A' string try repositioning this note at 8th fret "E" string and see if that makes a difference. Also, have you tried running into the pedal before the amp instead of the FX loop?
11. On a related topic, I'll be playing at the Ramsbottom Chocolate festival this weekend as part of 'Hungry Bentley' - 1pm Saturday. There's a real ale tent too. Chocolate and Ale and Sunshine and Bass - happy days (except that I don't drink, am trying to cut down on chocolate and the weather isn't guaranteed - good to be playing the bass though! ).
12. 'tis opening night tonight for the college's production of We Will Rock You. Full dress rehearsal last night seemed to go well, except for some 'alternative choices' by one of the guitarists. We shall see...
Anyone got any idea how I can easily cut a track in two? I've found I can highlight a small area and delete that for now but can't work out how to just split it exactly where I've got the line.
'B'
15.
if you went the route of something like a vintage Neve pre, into an Fairchild 670 compressor
Uber GAS list, but a bit much for playing 'Mustang Sally'.
16. Jazz bass (or similar) through Sansamp BDDI (slightly off topic, but there we are).
17. Revolution Number 9. Seriously though, Helter Skelter, Tomorrow Never Knows (EHX freeze pedals at the ready), Day tripper ( as long as you substitute the lyrics for 'gay stripper' or similar), Get Back - anything with a bit of a drive to it really.
18. You can pick up a used MBox pretty cheap on eBay, I really like the sound of mine. If you're considering one of these then make sure it's MBox version 2 and up (blue face), as the original MBox (with Focusrite pre's) aren't compatible with OSX Lion. OR for just under your budget these are superb - the AD conversion is stunning. 19. Up for sale is my Tech 21 XXL Bass edition. No box or paperwork and velcro on the bottom. Bought it a while ago but it's not seeing much use and I need to clear some space on my board for a filter coffee machine or similar... In really good nick (no dings, chipped paint or crackly pots). Looking for £40 posted.
