1.
Seriously thinking about putting one into my '74 jazz now!!
Don't think, feeeeeeeeel!. East pre's in a Jazz are incredible. I've put them in both of mine and wouldn't be without them.
2.
Yes, sorry, I mixed them up. Here's Casady's version:
sigh, you should never, NEVER have more knobs than strings.
3. Chances are, if pop music (in its definition as 'music that isn't classical' - another problematic adjective) is truly 'authentic' then you've never heard it. Dubstep started as 4 or 5 mates making music that they liked, then with in a couple of years it's being used to advertise Weetabix. You could do a lot worse than finding a copy of 'On Jazz' by Theodore Adorno - all of his arguments against perceived authenticity (or pseudo-individualisation, as he called it) ring true in today's musical market place. There's nowt new.
4. Best way I've found to file frets is to get a big bastard file and rasp them buggers until you're down to the wood - then glasspaper and laquer should so the rest...
5. I know you're probably bored of hearing this, but the For Sale forum on BC is brilliant, honest traders, instruments that are set up properly, generally a free cup of tea if you meet in person, and it's also better for the environment! Failing that, you could place an ad in the 'Items wanted' forum and see what that gets you. Other than that, support your local independent music shop!
6. RHCP version of 'Higher Ground' is always good for a giggle. Perfect for nailing octave playing too. I don't really play too much slap, so don't really have that long a list to go through.
7.
BC Rich-type stuff - what's the point?
Erm, being pointy! In defence of BC Rich, the mockingbird isn't a bad looking thing, at least it's got a couple of curves.
8. Looks a lot like a Cort "Kay" bass. There's a fella here with two of them... http://http://flatericbassandguitar.blogspot.co.uk/2010/08/photography-and-couple-of-cort-kay.html
9.

it's like playing a piano sideways without the keys. Why would you?
10.
Jesus how old is Bluey looking now!!!
probably less old than Our Lord, but you never know .
11. Dunno, looks like an '80s bass, some sort of Aria or Westone style machine.
12.
I borrowed one of those BC Rich things the other day for a practice. Don't try and sit down and play one. Doesn't matter how hard you try, some part of it will dig into your thigh. Damned uncomfortable!
Honestly Marvin, brain the size of a planet and you couldn't see that coming?
13. Little Angels first album - Don't Prey For Me. Blast from the past.
14. Anything spiky - BC Rich etc... I've got a bit of a soft spot for some of the Jackson stuff (both the basses and the band) but a pointy headstock is my limit.
15. My version is a train wreck. Must. Try. Harder.
16. Yeah, in the mix they sound like simple lines, but it's only when you start to really analyse what Bernie did that you realise just how good a player he was. Those lines are easy to play, but tricky to play WELL. stick with it though - dead notes are really useful in all sorts of places, so it's a technique that's worth persevering with. Best of British to you, sir.
17. We've got a Farida 'P' bass at college and it's OK, probably been abused a bit though. I might look into setting it up properly next week...
18. hasn't anyone developed a 'single supply' limiter for use with (just off the top of my head) guitar amps? Just re-read the whole thread, the lump hammer will do fine.
19. I was a bout to suggest the old stalwart 'wire brush and dettol' but it seems that you've sorted it. As you were.
20. Just finished building my VaJazzle fretless bass - Mighty Mite neck, East pre, EMG PUPs etc... absolutley LOVE it.
21. Hartke Hydrive 410. Really loud, clear cabs.
