2.
by trap are you referring to the [s]adams[/s] madam's apple visible in the first vid?
Fixed

4. Hi, up for grabs is my aged MXR M124 Dual 15 band EQ. It's a 2U unit with +/- 12dB at 25, 40, 63, 100, 160, 250, 400, 630, 1K, 1K6, 2K5, 4K, 6K3, 10K and 16K the box isn't in bad nick considering its age, and there are two large scratches on the underside, but the unit still works perfectly and sounds great - a really warm 'early solid state' sort of sound. Independent volume controls for channel one and channel two and inputs and outputs are on unbalanced 1/4" jack sockets. Looking for £90, plus postage or collect in person. Photos available later tonight.
5. Hmm, any compressor will add noise to a signal, due to the nature of the circuitry (recovery gain stage at the end etc), but if it's been quiet until now then the first thing I'd do is to check batteries wherever you have them (looks like a 'ray in your avatar). A lot of sound engineers I know like to take a signal directly from the bass, then give you a feed from the DI box to run your FX and amp, have you tried this? This should help to identify if the hiss is coming from the pre on your bass or not. Sorry it's a bit basic, but I've no experience of the BBE pedal stuff.
6. Just found my Watford Valves 5751, cryogenically treated with less than 15 hours of use. Really clean valve, and dead useful for taming amps which have a tendency to distort at low levels, such as the Bass Terror etc. SOLD
7.
personally i wouldnt go lower than what the amp says it can handle. you could potentially run 2 x 8 ohm cabs on both sides if im right. Or 1 x 4 ohm in the low pass and 2 x 8ohm in the high pass or the other way round. I would just run 2 x 4 ohm 8x10 cabs in full range stereo, that would kick ass. forgive me if im wrong.
No, you're absolutely bob-on, 2 8x10 cabs would definitely kick ass.
8. On the subject of SE mics then I've used one in preference to an AKG 414 for a male vocal - we both thought it sounded better (suited his voice better) and they can be had fairly cheap second hand - they're also really handy for acoustic instruments like acoustic guitars, mandolins etc. If you're well rehearsed, then you could always hire in better quality mics for a couple of days - a Neumann U87 can be yours for £15 a day from companies like Wigwam etc... Just a thought.
9. Ooooh, Olympic white for anything Fender make (with a Burgundy tort scratchplate), or Tobacco sunburst with a white 'pearloid' plate is lovely too. Black is a bit, well, meh .
10. I'd recommend something with a bit more detail for vocals, but if you're only going to have one mic, then either an SM57 or 58 should be it. Virtually bombproof and can yield very good results if you're careful.
11. So there we are, fuzz 'n filter. Nice
12. The first port of call should be the shop that you got it from, explain that this one also has the same problem, and that you're disappointed in them having supplied another faulty unit. I bought one of these cabs and the LH1000 when they first came out and have never had any problems with either unit, but other than that I've got very little experience of Hartke stuff. The HA3500 is the best selling amp head in the world though, so their build quality can't be too shoddy.
13. Only just spotted this S1m0n, have sent the link out to all of my degree students - brilliant resource!
14. Anything with dirt and a 'blend control' would be a good place to start. If you're after the 'classic rock' overdrive sound then the mids are your friend. The JLoMenzo does that really well, and you should be able to coax a good sound out of the Boss ODB3. I've just acquired a Tech 21 XXL Bass edition, and it's perfect classic overdrive sounds. I've also got a Russian Muff too, but that's all about the bass and treble - as it'll pretty much scoop out the mids for you. Welcome to the start of your journey; it's long and expensive...and fun.
15. I've just looked at where I am and where I'd like to be. They are not, not, not the same.
16. I wouldn't imagine so, most FX units have filter circuitry inside them to 'voice' the unit for a specific instrument, so what'll probably happen is that your low end (eg 100Hz) will magically disappear once the internal filter gets rid of it, leaving a very mid-heavy bass sound. Go for it, you could always use the on-board EQ to roll some of the bass off to be on the safe side.
17.
Hi, i drive a Focus estate, do you think that if i recline the back seat i could fit one of these blue picks inside?
Dunno, should fit in a Vauxhall Corsa though.
18.
Anyone saying Reaper is clunky needs to give it a bit more time IMO. Its lightening fast in the right hands, and seeing as it is about the most configurable DAW out there(there are even downloadable sets of ProTools key mappings and look and feel layouts apparently) pretty much how you need to work can be covered. There are a few areas where its no all the way there I know (midi editing isnt it's strongest point for sure), but a little more time with it will reap huge rewards.
Thanks for the pointer about PT key mappings, I'm off to get some now...
19. The Em11 and A+7 are II, V in D, the E sharp (F) in the A augmented would suggest D minor, but the Em11 is D major, so you could add a bit of interest by swinging between those two scales, same with the Dm11 and Gaug7 - either C major or C minor. Ultimately it's down to your ears, but yes, D and C are good places to start with those particular chords. As for the Aaug7 and Bbm7 you could look for common chord tones - A+7 being A, C sharp, F and G Bb-7 being Bb, D flat F and Ab Since Db and C sharp are the same note, and the Fs are the same then you could use those as pivot points in between the chromatic movement. Or you could indeed go for a modal approach. Hope this helps, 'Speak No Evil' isn't a tune that I'm overly familiar with, so this is all just theoretical. Let me know how you get on...
20. I've got 20 years of Cubase under my belt, then moved to protools about 3 years ago. Reaper is a little bit clunky at the moment, probably because I'm a 'keyboard shortcuts' sort of guy, and I'm just not familiar with Reaper ones yet.

22. Another bump for Reaper. I'm having a few issues regarding installing PT on my new mac, so I'm back on Reaper for now. I can usde my Pro Tools Hardware, so the AD conversion is still great, and does everything I need it to. I don't have anything on my phone, as it's old and wretched. For everything else I use 'Basschat'.
23. Reaper comes with a fair number of plugins (compressors, reverbs etc...), but it will automatically link to any plugin form any other DAW installed on your system - mine picked up ALL of my VSTs (Cubase format), AU (Garageband) and RTAS (Protools) and lets me use them all. Shame I'm going back to hardware really.
