1. You pay the bills with the first five frets, anything else is a bonus.
2. A Blade 5 string Jazz-a-like and a home made Fretless Jazz clone. Both chuffing lovely.
3. That's my dream bass, as it's as old as me, but not in a position to buy at the moment. Best of luck with the sale though, that's a beautiful instrument.
4. I've had a bit of a mad run of selling, buying and trading stuff on here of late. Never had any problems with anything on BC, we're all just brilliant lovely people who look after our gear. And then sell it on. Don't forget to donate to keep the site running.
5.
I'd give SFX a look and Tech-21 Bass XXL. MXR blow torch on the fuzz side is also quite nice, as is a turbo rat which you can grab pretty cheap
Another +1 for the XXL. The 'Warp' control is your friend!
6. Seems a bit pricey for a pdf. The "AB guide to Music Theory" retails for about a fiver, and that's printed. Great idea though.
7. Should that not be "1000W power amp with built in Sansamp"? I've got roughly the same setup - BDDI into an Ampeg 1550. It did not cost $2500...
8.
All you need to know for gigging is that it takes annoying [s]hiss [/s] hum away.
Fixed.
9. the screws are missing from the finger board? I've never had screws on my finger board - maybe that's what keeps holding me back.
10. Doesn't sound too bad - get a bit of Bach under your fingers and you're sorted. Actually, even without the Bach this ain't that difficult. Great music though.
11.
Basically the first time I turn it on I want my guitarist to sh*t himself
If you're after guitarist defecation then take sheet music to rehearsal - works every time.
12. I'm too modest to 'name drop' on here, but you've forced me into it: Sammy Davis JR was in my woodwork class, Dante Alighiere was in my french group (for some strange reason), and H from Steps ran the ice cream van that sold confectionary and 'single' cigarettes to 5th formers at lunch break. Also we had some fellows in assembly once showing us all how to do tricks with yoyo's, can't remember their names though. Top that then!
13. another +1 for DiMarzio Ultra Jazzes. I picked a pair up on here for £60 and they are the absolute balls. My fretless 4 string just sings
14. Yowsa, that's a nice bass! I'm not usually a fan of stingrays or red basses, but this one looks lovely. Good luck with the sale.
15. I've recently found that active basses make all the difference. I've just finished converting both of my basses to active and the difference is like night and day. All of the tones I need are literally at my fingertips, and I don't need to run to the backline to fiddle with knobs in the dark. I think that if I'd had an active bass with the LH1000 then I would have kept it.
16. Anybody else come full circle with their effects? I started out (many weeks ago) with a DOD FX25, Russian Big Muff and a few other bits and pieces. Last year I think I went through about 10 different fuzz/overdrive pedals and I've had 5 different filters - many of which have been fairly high-end stuff. Today I bought a DOD FX25 from eBay to go next to my 2nd Russian muff. The difference is that now i play active basses, so the sounds that were in my head when I started dabbling with effects are now coming out of my speakers. Has anybody else had a similar experience where you had it 'right first time' but didn't realise it?
17. Sansamp BDDI, octave, chorus and a dirtbox. That's all I need most of the time.
18. yeah, I'd reckon about 50% of the FX are fundamental and get used all the time. Things like octave and chorus will always be on the board, and I'd consider at least one dirtbox essential. The rest, like envelope filters and wah etc... are for when things get a little bit 'further out'
19. I bought the LH1000 and a Hydrive 410 when they first came out. The head is very powerful, but not too versatile. I've kept the cab and am currently running a Sansamp BDDI into an Ampeg 1550 poweramp. Moves a lot of air, but more versatile soundwise.
20. Or just do what I did and write the stuff yourself, but in such a way that the bass effects are essential to the sound of the band. Of course that's not my primary concern when writing material, but it's certainly not vetoed before it's even tried. Even better if you have some way to demo the stuff (none of the other guys read, so this is a necessary evil for me) let them hear it and judge it on its own merits, not pedal-envy.
21.
I went to school with a load of reprobates.
you still went though? I never.
22. I much prefer Hold Your Fire to Power Windows. They're both better than Grace Under Pressure though - that's a bit of a stinker. Of course, that's my opinion. Presto on the other hand is magnificent - is that the Wal too?
23. Mine arrived this lunchtime, will be stringing them up later on tonight to see how they fare.
24. Power Windows was the one where nobody had any bass. All mids and treble for the bass sound, electronic drums and Alex's guitar tones are practically supersonic. I believe that instead of amps he used large tin cans with baby wasps in... Bi-amped of course.
