Ooooh, Olympic white for anything Fender make (with a Burgundy tort scratchplate), or Tobacco sunburst with a white 'pearloid' plate is lovely too. Black is a bit, well, meh .

I'd recommend something with a bit more detail for vocals, but if you're only going to have one mic, then either an SM57 or 58 should be it. Virtually bombproof and can yield very good results if you're careful.

The first port of call should be the shop that you got it from, explain that this one also has the same problem, and that you're disappointed in them having supplied another faulty unit. I bought one of these cabs and the LH1000 when they first came out and have never had any problems with either unit, but other than that I've got very little experience of Hartke stuff. The HA3500 is the best selling amp head in the world though, so their build quality can't be too shoddy.

Anything with dirt and a 'blend control' would be a good place to start. If you're after the 'classic rock' overdrive sound then the mids are your friend. The JLoMenzo does that really well, and you should be able to coax a good sound out of the Boss ODB3. I've just acquired a Tech 21 XXL Bass edition, and it's perfect classic overdrive sounds. I've also got a Russian Muff too, but that's all about the bass and treble - as it'll pretty much scoop out the mids for you. Welcome to the start of your journey; it's long and expensive...and fun.

I wouldn't imagine so, most FX units have filter circuitry inside them to 'voice' the unit for a specific instrument, so what'll probably happen is that your low end (eg 100Hz) will magically disappear once the internal filter gets rid of it, leaving a very mid-heavy bass sound. Go for it, you could always use the on-board EQ to roll some of the bass off to be on the safe side.

The Em11 and A+7 are II, V in D, the E sharp (F) in the A augmented would suggest D minor, but the Em11 is D major, so you could add a bit of interest by swinging between those two scales, same with the Dm11 and Gaug7 - either C major or C minor. Ultimately it's down to your ears, but yes, D and C are good places to start with those particular chords. As for the Aaug7 and Bbm7 you could look for common chord tones - A+7 being A, C sharp, F and G Bb-7 being Bb, D flat F and Ab Since Db and C sharp are the same note, and the Fs are the same then you could use those as pivot points in between the chromatic movement. Or you could indeed go for a modal approach. Hope this helps, 'Speak No Evil' isn't a tune that I'm overly familiar with, so this is all just theoretical. Let me know how you get on...

I've got 20 years of Cubase under my belt, then moved to protools about 3 years ago. Reaper is a little bit clunky at the moment, probably because I'm a 'keyboard shortcuts' sort of guy, and I'm just not familiar with Reaper ones yet.

Another bump for Reaper. I'm having a few issues regarding installing PT on my new mac, so I'm back on Reaper for now. I can usde my Pro Tools Hardware, so the AD conversion is still great, and does everything I need it to. I don't have anything on my phone, as it's old and wretched. For everything else I use 'Basschat'.

Reaper comes with a fair number of plugins (compressors, reverbs etc...), but it will automatically link to any plugin form any other DAW installed on your system - mine picked up ALL of my VSTs (Cubase format), AU (Garageband) and RTAS (Protools) and lets me use them all. Shame I'm going back to hardware really.

Publish or Perish. Unfortunately it seems to be the latter.

If you've got a Russian (or NYC Muff for that matter) it's relatively easy to add a blend pot. It's not true bypass, as you need a buffer to do this without horrific squealing noises, but it does make this particular box useful for more modern dirty sounds.

I can't imagine that anyone would pickup anything useful from this 'board, it's just another pain in the neck.

I tried the Behringer clone and there was virtually no difference in sound quality, the case felt really flimsy though.
