1. New year, new start. I mean, I'm all for optimism during the winter moths, but this is pushing it a bit... 2. Would you consider a trade for my Ampeg SVP PRO?
3. Postage to Lisbon is about £16.
4. Hi all, just been having a bit of a clearout and i've got 5 right angled mono (TS) Neutrik jack plugs. These have been used and then desoldered. shall we say £12 posted to mainland UK - practically half price. Sold.
5. hmm, everybody else's pictures are bigger than mine, I assure you, that photo is "not actual size"...
6. Here's my tuppence worth: ampeg SVP Pro into an ampeg SVP1500 with a dBx 1066 in the FX loop into a Hartke Hydrive 410. Meaty, beaty, big and bouncy!
7. +1, my blade 5 string has Ernie Ball flats and a J retro - lovely sound(s).
8. Guitar, keys, drums, mandolin and I'm pretty handy on recorders; I've got a soprano and an alto and would like a bass one (obviously) but they're a bit too pricey for a hobby instrument. I also dabble with pitched percussion, stylophone and the one-string banjo.
9. I'll get a quote tomorrow and get back to you. Cheers, Paul
10. That's good for me mate, but the postage to Greece will be a bit extra, do you need a quote?
11. up for sale is my beloved VT2, shifting musical genres and limited space on the board dictate that I should really move this on. Two channels of valve (real, lighting up and getting sweaty valve, not a simulation) overdrive - from a gentle nudge right up to a kick in the genitals - each with an independent 3 band EQ and volume control, balanced, switchable DI out (again with independent volume control) and a deathly silent power supply. I'm really sorry to see this go, as it's a really lovely piece of kit, but I have to be practical. More info here: http://www.davehalla....uk/page37.html £200 new, I'd like £125 posted to mainland UK. Please note, power supply will require an IEC (kettle) lead to keep the cost down, as it's a flat-screen monitor supply but it's the quietest one out of anything I've tried. Great for recording straight into the desk, as it's a lovely valve DI box too.
12.

...it doesn't count if you work in a music shop.
13. Nice to see this moving so quickly, Dave's stuff is just brilliant.
14. +1, I met him after a clinic once, and he was just the nicest guy - really humble and willing to chat about all kinds of crap.
15.
I am very much a solid state fan. Main reasons... 1. Reliability 2. Portability 3. Price Reliability - When a tube goes it's always when you least want it to. 9/10 in the last 5mins of a soundcheck or second song into the set! Portability - Have you ever picked up an Ampeg SVT-2 head and carried it up a flight of stairs? Try that and then do the same with a Markbass LMIII. Price - The D-class market is very good value for money and the quality of the products out there is getting better and better every year. Companies like Genz Benz and Markbass are developing very nice D-class/Tube hybrid amps that sound great.
Fair comments, but why wouldn't you carry a spare tube? we all go out with spare leads/straps/picks etc.., even if most of the time it's for the amnesiac guitarist to scav off us. Portability is where the trad. valve heads fall down. Mine is close to a two-roadie-job, the SVT2 quoted weighing not far off 5stone (or so I'm told). Even taking this into account the decision should really be made by your ears, so despite the weight, price, maintenance etc... issues, I'd still have at least one valve in my rig - that way you can tweak the overall sound of the amp to your own specs by swapping out tubes for different ones, especially in the first couple of preamp tubes. Ultimately it's all down to taste. Yes, the world would be better if we all drove small, efficient, easy to maintain eco-cars, but occasionally we all need a bit of 'Mustang'...
16. I'll need to get some more soon too - having a bit of a rethink on the board at the mo...
17. One of those Steinberger 'Cricket Bat' things - the body is a cutaway.
18. free bump for the EHX headphone amp. Really good piece of kit for private practice. It's also got a dinky little clip for attaching it to your strap. Win.
