1. Isaac Hayes? Ya Daaaaaaaammmmmmnnnn right!
2. I had the funk until I took an arrow in the knee.
3. I've got a dBx 1066 (my friend gave it to me) and only use half of it. I use it to just 'tickle' the peaks (gain reduction of roughly 6dB, seldom more), so it's more of a safety net than an effect. Nice to know I've got lots of options if I'm doing slap though. That's not very often.
4. I bought mine off Rich, and am happy to concur that it is, in fact, brilliant!
5. Yup, Dave Hall stuff all the way. My VT2 EQ is a main-stay on the board of delights. also, I nominate "andydye" for special award, as his avatar just made me chuckle.
6. Bump for this rig, I used to have one and they're awesome. Still got the cab and it's currently taking everything my 1000W Ampeg can deliver.
7. another pedal before it (eq) as a booster?

Sold

Bump from a fellow Bright Onions user. Really well made and useful bits of kit, and a bit of a steal at this price too. Treat yourself, it's Christmas!

Thumb rests

The best thumb rests I've found are belt loops.
10. agreed, I think loads of other players did this 30 years ago, and better too. I wanted to like it too, but it's really uninspiring. Surely the point of a bass 'solo' album is to push boundaries of tone or technique (amongst other things), not just please yourself. I think listening to this whole album would have the same effect as watching him masturbate in public - it would just make you feel uneasy and a bit sick, it would also make you wonder why he's doing it in public.
11. 9v right hand? nah, that bad boy is MAINS powered!
12. Hi Jake (et al), DV247 have EZ drummer on offer at £59. http://www.dv247.com/news/December%20Drum%20Deals%20from%20Toontrack%20Music/133008 HTH.
13. +1, All good amps are worth repairing. Modern stuff (with a few exceptions) are all made really cheaply, using the most economically viable (cheapest) components, as opposed to higher quality 'old skool' technology. I'd certainly never getting rid of an SWR in favour of anything that Ashdown make.
14. What about aria basses, weren't they "rocktastic" in the '80s? I was only a nipper in the 'decade that taste forgot' so I wouldn't really know, and I can't be arsed to google it.
15. I'm using the Boss TU3 at the moment. Seems to do everything I need it to, plus it looks like Las Vegas when it lights up - bonus.
16. that's crap, definitely a step in the wrong direction for Apple. I've got an old (2008) macbook and use firewire/USB. No problems. Can't use PC VSTs though.
17. Nothing, I'm one happy bunny.
18. Bump for the dBx, I us one in my rig and it's great little unit. really flexible.
19. Nice. thanks for posting this.
20. Hi jake, I'm not currently in the market for basses, but nice to have you on board, hope things get better for you.
21. I'll check what mine is, I may be the guilty party. ......phew, 8kB. as you were.
22. just be honest with yourself and evaluate what you can do on a regular basis - or better still, get a good teacher who can do that and then advise the best way to move forward. I've been playing for 19 years, and have progressed a fair way, but I'm STILL trying to develop my playing, but focussing on note choice instead of techniques, because 99% of the time that's far more important than double-thumbing / slapping etc... Sure, it's nice to have the chops, but you'll need to be a solid player first. I know that I was a rubbish player when I started, but I'd played keyboards for a while so I knew bits about chord theory and scales, which helped, but I had to work an awful long time to develop my groove playing. It's payed dividends though - I've never failed to get a gig after an audition, and have had some really well-paid gigs off the back of it. Just take it one step at a time (and get a metronome).

Best Octaver?

OC2 is the daddy of octavers. I've moved to an aguilar as it plays better with my active bass, but the sound of the OC2 is sublime (pun intended)
24. I've tried alice strings - they were OK, but nothing special. For the money they were just what I wanted (stick them on to record some slap parts, then back to the flats). I wish my strings were cheap, they're currently working out at a tenner a string.
25. I've found that get a halfway decent distorted/overdriven/fuzz bass sound you've got to have an amp and speakers (or simulator) in the chain to 'flatter' the sound. Of course, sounding 'good' is massively subjective. I can see the rationale behind the OP, but to push the idea to the nth degree, we should all be playing uprights, eating our food raw, and sleeping in trees.
