1. Hey Y'all. What do people recommend for some trem / leslie loveliness. I'd be using it mainly on bass chords high up the neck. Currently I've got a Boss CE2B and an EHX Memory Boy - which re fine, but the CE2B is a bit limited when it comes to extreme modulation and the MB is a little bit noisier than I'd like. Any suggestions?
2. I think these guys are the only authorised Ampeg spares people in the UK Panic Music. They're not the cheapest, but they really know their stuff. From experience they've been really helpful in sorting my old Ampeg kit out. Also you might want to drop Watford Valves a line if you're retubing, again not the cheapest, but worth the premium for knowledge/advice and speed of delivery.
3. Ask yourself this question: If you had a bass worth this much would you trust someone else to ebay it for you? Something doesn't stack up with this, I'd proceed with extreme caution.
4. I used to have one of these (way back when) and absolutely loved it. Gigged it up and down the country and it never let me down. Good EQ section too. Long-winded bump on me.
5. My black face Ampeg SVP PRO. Lovely. Everything else I've sold / replaced over the years, but I've had that bad boy for nearly 15 years through thick and thin. A keeper for sure.
6. That's lovely, thanks for posting.
7.
Van Halen 1984. What a great album. Girl Gone Bad is a monster of a VH number. Also been giving the first VH album and Fair Warning a good spin. Love them.
+1 for early VH stuff. VH1 and 1984 are just brilliant. Back on topic: Ode to no one by the Smashing Pumpkins.
8. Welcome to the forum. The rule around here is that without pictures, it didn't happen. We all NEED to see pictures of your beautiful basses. We get off on things like that around here, sounds like you'll fit right in.
9. I think they look great. I've been trying to buy one since I first saw them advertised 2 years ago. Nobody seems to know anything about them or even when they are being made. All this pent up GAS will lead to an explosion soon.
10. Shall we just say it's another great 'Kaymerson' line and have done with it? Good, let's move on. Thanks for this Wal - a top tune with some excellent playing. More power to your elbow.
11. I am a massive Rush fan, so have always erred towards Jazz Basses. They work for me and I can get 'my sound' out of it too. I've borrowed a vintage Rickenbacker 4001 for a recording, but got 2 1/2 bars into it and decided it was (for me) unplayable, which was a shame as it had 'that' sound, so I just dirtied up my Ampeg a bit, and got the tone pretty close. Then I discovered Primus - I'm not likely to get a Carl Thompson anytime soon...
12. I think this poll is at the wrong gig...
13. I'd recommend a chat with the chaps at Watford Valves, they seem to know their Ampeg stuff inside and out, sorted mine out a treat.
14. If you're running firewire then I'd recommend either the Sapphire Pro or the MOTU stuff. I've only had experience of MOTU on mac, and they're rock solid. The Sapphire I've used with PC, and that's brilliant too. It's really a buyer's market at the moment as far as technology goes.
15. I use loads of FX, but only as and when they're required. I've got 6 distortion / overdrive / fuzz units (not all on the same board), and depending what and where I'm playing I'll pack certain ones for a specific sound. My MXR 80 tends to follow me around, as it's a quality DI, and my amp won't let me do 'post EQ' DI out, other than than I use a bit of chorus and /or delay on slower songs, particularly on fretless, and octave on a few songs too. The envelope filter takes up the most space on the board, but gets the least use. I just can't bring myself to get rid though. Using effects that need to 'track' the pitch being played (octaver / SYB5) requires really precise technique, so as far as the OP goes, I'd say it works the other way - a more accurate playing style is needed for certain FX pedals.
16. That long bit between the BIG bit of wood and the tuners. Apparently it's quite important. Unless it's a Fender Jazz, which will have a 'dead spot' at C sharp on the G string. Something to do with the mass of the headstock.
17. +1 for the external hard drive, it makes such a difference. IMO Cubase essential 5 is really a 'bare bones' program; if you're serious about doing high quality recording then you'll probably need to upgrade this. Cubase 6 has just come out, but I've seen it do very little other than crash (on Windows 7) today. I'd look at 'Reaper' - you can record and edit to a greater degree than Cubase 5 LE will allow, and the license costs considerably less than Cubase. Also I've noticed that the EZ Drummer plugin loads almost instantly in Reaper, whereas in Protools it can take a couple of minutes to load all the sounds. I know it's the age-old bore, but I've found my productivity increased massively when I moved to Mac computers. I spend very little time reinstalling drivers and resolving hardware conflicts, because there simply aren't any - I boot up and compose - end of story. If you can't swing for a brand new one, then look at a used Macbook Pro, still a lot of machine for the money. Just my 2c worth.
18.
'Hendrix chord?' :lol
No worse than the 'Miles Davis' chord I suppose. Cheers Guys, keep 'em coming.
19. Hey y'all. I'm currently embarking on a series of random compositions and would like some help from BCers. I'd like as many people as possible to suggest either a chord or a single note via replies or PMs. My goal is to then use them to generate a piece of random music . The finished piece will go on soundcloud and I'll post links to it in this very forum. Thanks in advance, Paul

21. Show me a guitarist who can count to '4' repeatedly and accurately, and I'll show you a potential bass player. Yet to find one though.
22.
Could bass beeeeeeee any cooler ?
+1! Bass is the BALLS!!
23. Yeah, talking and playing is well nigh impossible, probably because when you talk, you're making it up as you go along - relative to whatever someone else has said. This adds weight to the argument that it comes with practicing (lots and lots of it) - once you know both parts well enough then you can put them together. When I played piano (time ago) I would rehearse the LH part separately to the RH line, then put them together. Once you've nailed these two skills simultaneously then you can start to play keyboards with your feet...
24. Sometimes I do, sometimes I do not. Does this make me a bad person? No. It means I'm a versatile (and I'd ike to think tasteful) player.
