1. Been delving through Blur’s back catalogue lately, and not only loving AJ’s bass lines, but Graham Coxon’s unique approach to guitar ‘harmony’ 😄. He’s light years ahead of anything Noel did with oasis. His solo on Country House in particular puts me in mind if Ler’s playing in Primus, who I also admire.
2. I put ‘my’ bass together out of eBay bits - 2 piece ash J body, maple J neck with fretless rosewood board. extra rout for a MM pickup and some extra (but still passive) electronics, and voilà. The phrase “from my cold, dead hands” springs to mind.
3. Because they were designed by Hugo Boss. True fact,
4. 'Tallica were on the cusp of replacing Lars when Cliff Burton died. They thought it would be too much to recruit a new bassist and drummer at the same time, so he got a reprieve. Cliff's death was a double tragedy.
5. this. Some's bastards, some's aint.
6. 'Carry'?!?! My plectrums come with wheels these days. 😢
7. The Memory (doesn't) Remains - Metallica. 😄
8. Mmmmm, vintage ribbon mics. 😍
9. Some British people are dim, statistically that’s a given, as are some Americans. My point was that implying that all Americans were dumb is prejudiced
10. Wow. 2022 is off to a flying start - two racially abusive threads already. Come on people, we're better than this.
11. look at the current draw of the Fender Downtown pedal too - it's not just about the voltage. If the Downtown tries to pull too much current from the phantom power then it can damage the mixer. The manual doesn't mention phantom power anywhere - it just labels the XLR as an output, and the specs in the back just mention 9vdc 400mA barrel adaptor, so I reckon you're good.
12. Rotosound 88 Trubass strings - cut for 4 in a row 34" 'Fender' style bass. used exclusively on my p bass for only a few weeks; change in musical direction means that they're not the sound I'm looking for. Price includes delivery to mainland UK addresses. now sold
13. Buying kit doesn’t count if it’s for work surely? Where’s the fun in that?
14. Why does it have to be 3m? Why not run a mains extension (much more durable) and plug into that?
15. Is it… (looks around conspiratorially and adopts a more ‘sotto voce’ delivery) one of *his*…?
16. Various bass book for sale: Ed Friedland - Building Walking Basslines - book and CD £8 Josquin des Pres - J.S. Bach for Bass - book and CD £10 Bob Gallway - J.S. Bach for Electric Bass - £5
17. Jesus! These put me in mind of 'Sid's room' in Toy Story. And not in a good way.
18. Live at the Greek - Jimmy Page & the Black Crowes
19. This. I'm another exponent of the Chambers school of walking
20. I've jut looked for the specs on this pedal and it confirms what I thought - the pedal drops the supply down to 12v for the tube (any more would overheat them), so (assuming it's a 7812 voltage regulator) as long as it's at least 15v and can deliver the required mount of current (300mA) then there's no real benefit to running it at 18v, the 15 one will be fine. Congrats on a great little unit, and even greater spouse.
21. If you feel you must spend some money on it then LaBella LowTension Flats are amazing strings...
