  1. I had one for a while and it always kept up with any band I played with. The EQ is based on the classic ‘fender’ style, so fully flat is (if memory serves) bass straight up, mids on full, and treble cut a little bit, so if you’re ok with that then it’s a no-brainer for that price!
  2. Indeed, the strength of plastic is as varied as wood.
  3. Ed Friedlands book on creating walking bass lines are great from a theory perspective - they use standard notation throughout, and are great for learning and developing chord theory.
  4. Gigs, and plenty of them. ☹️
  5. My personal contributions to this thread would be Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan - two opposite ends of the ‘vocal abilities’ spectrum, but despite her limitations, every note that Billie sings just hits me right in the feels.
  6. The title says of this thread is ‘knobs’; I think you’ll find that these are not in fact knobs, but lamentable cnuts.
  7. I first heard Lala Hathaway on Marcus Miller’s ‘live and more’ album, where she delivers a jaw-dropping rendition of ‘Summertime’. I was listening to the album at a friend’s house (who is a singing teacher) and she spotted it first. Suffice to say she’s been on my playlist since! Devin Townsend is an amazing vocalist too, and I really rate Maynard James Keenan from Tool - he’s got quite a set of pipes on him too.
  8. Moi aussi, it’s nice to feel like you’ve made someone’s reasonably priced dream come true.
  9. Laminate body to give it the strength that it would have had if we hadn’t made that yawning chasm in it in the first place. Right.....
  10. Sweet baby Jesus and the orphans! That’s beautiful!!!
  11. Me too. All (bar one) of mine are home-made! The one that isn’t is a Dave Hall, so I’m prepared to compromise there! 😄
  12. I really liked my VT2, and didn't find to noisy at all. As with any valve kit they're fussy about having a clean power supply (and healthy valves), but it looks like this one comes with the PSU that Dave used to supply, so that's probably not an issue. These can be retubed for about £20, and as they're only preamp tubes (12AX7) then they don't need biasing; just pull the old one out and push the new one in.
  13. Here’s a few sound samples from my old VT2... https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/ULEHHtChiP3rrBSs8
  14. 2 channels of tubey thump? for my money I’d spring for the VT2 advertised here: I’ve used DHA stuff for years and always had a great tone.
  15. That string spacing though - you’d have to get a cab between the A and D strings.
