  1. Upgrade your snare to one with a mesh head - arguably that’s the one you’ll be using most often, than think about your kick. a better quality sound module will help too, but I think the feel of the snare is the most important thing.
  2. The Nether is a very respectable octave pedal!
  3. One caveat to my vox amplug useage - I use the ‘clean’ version, intended for guitar. It doesn’t have the metronome or bass amp sims (but the fender bassman setting is pretty good), but I often like to practice without any amp sims, just to concentrate on my technique. It’s also really useful for playing guitar through - so there’s that.
  4. I’ve had a vox one for years, and never had a problem with it.
  5. Job done. Consultation took place and advice was given, whether clients take the advice delivered has no bearing on Stewblack.
  6. They’re just down the road from me - been there for over 20 years and never had a problem with anything from them.
  7. I once got stopped in the street by 2 young ladies and asked if I was in x band, I said yes, and they seemed genuinely pleased to see me. Not as pleased as I was to be recognised!
  8. I had an SX about ten years ago and it was brilliant - they punch way above their price point!
  9. I love Tori Amos’ cover of Happiness is a Warm Gun:

  12. Mostly fingers for me - all of my practice time is spent playing fingerstyle unless it’s for a certain song where I want the sound of a pick. for me it’s a green tortex (I think it’s 0.8mm).
  13. True, I sometimes produce overtones when my balls aren’t sitting right.
  14. In that case, you’d be better off just buying a power amp, that’s what I ended up doing.
  15. I had one for a while and it always kept up with any band I played with. The EQ is based on the classic ‘fender’ style, so fully flat is (if memory serves) bass straight up, mids on full, and treble cut a little bit, so if you’re ok with that then it’s a no-brainer for that price!
  16. Indeed, the strength of plastic is as varied as wood.
  17. Ed Friedlands book on creating walking bass lines are great from a theory perspective - they use standard notation throughout, and are great for learning and developing chord theory.
