  1. R.E.M. Automatic For The People > Monster Don't get me wrong, I LOVE monster, but AFTP is just sublime.
  2. Mmmm, I’m trying to convince myself that I don’t need another one. GLWTS.
  3. Personally I’d go with Mac. Yes, it’s more initial outlay, but I’ve only had a couple of issues n my MacBook Pro (since 2010) that have stopped me making music, and I remember a time when I was spending more time taking my Windows machine apart every other weekend to solve hardware conflicts, and regularly had to reinstall drivers. It’s true what they say - once you’ve had Mac, you never go back. Macs have a free DAW in the shape of Garage Band, which is more than adequate for dipping a toe down the rabbit hole. cubase will install on your Mac too, so there’s that. Latency issues will be there on any system, so I’d recommend a solid state drive and max out your RAM.
  4. Can I just ask, what's the distance between the 2 pickups, and how did you arrive at this dimension?
  5. I seldom take more than one bass, but it depends on the gig; if I need Jazz and P sounds then I’ll take 2 - sweaty rock gigs that just need a P bass grunt I just take the one for. I always carry spare strings and leads though.
  6. Hopefully it’s not plucked your fine knitwear...
  7. Yeah, I’ve got a home made cab with a lovely 12” driver that sounds great, but looks terrible, so I might just make a new front baffle and run my 12” with the tweeter.
  8. Way to open a can of worms!!
  9. It still is in some parts of the UK.
  10. Just got this little beauty* from a Facebook seller close to where I work; it used to be a Roland bass combo but has been decapitated and now sports a pair of EBS drivers. Just the thing for storing until gigs start happening again! *beauty is a lie.
  11. The D string looks a bit squiffy too, the strings should at least be parallel on the headstock! If that were mine then I’d send it back from whence it came.
  12. You can do a mock up online using the Kisekae’s flash app, I use it when making aesthetic choices about pickguards and builds - it’s free too!! https://tctwp.com/kisekae/ scroll down until you see the body shape you wand and take it from there.
  13. The NW Guitars necks are amazing!! I’ve got a PJ bass with one of their Jazz necks that is just lovely. It’s currently up for sale, but honestly, I’m not bothered if it doesn’t sell!!
  14. Really? She must have had a tough life, cos she’s only 5 foot 2 now!
  15. “If you don’t know me by now” Simply Red. seriously though, I want REM’s ‘Electrolyte’ as I go through the curtain / get fired into space, the whole “I’m not scared, I’m outta here” at the end should see me right
  16. Built another one of these for a project that is unlikely to see the light of day so I might as well sell it. clone of the chunk systems filter with controls for pitch, sweep and squelch, also one for adding in a little bit of dirt (up to lots of dirt!). This little unit will do up sweeps as well as down, so it’s a really versatile filter tuned specifically for bass.
  17. *NOW SOLD* Superb Leslie cabinet emulator, plus polyphonic octaver up and down one octave. Footswitchable between fast and slow speed, expression pedal input for controlling speeds in real time, blendable between bass driver and tweeter. This little box also has a built In overdrive for crunchier sounds, so it’ll do loads of different sounds. Cabinet emulation is optional, so if you just want a wobbly sound to put into a DAW cab simulator then that’s possible too comes with original box and instructions. Price reduced to £40 *SOLD*
  18. I love the sound of the cobalts especially on my P bass, but they’re higher tension than round wounds, so they’re a bit tougher to play.

True. The NE5534 is a dual opamp, so isn't a pin-for-pin replacement either. The most common single opamp ICs that will drop straight into that socket and perform as it should are the TL071 (or TL061 or TL081 are pin-for-pin replacement too) or the good old LM741, which I love in overdrive/distortion pedals. The 741 gets a lot of stick on electronics forums from Hi-fi buffs, as it's old and noisy in comparison to newer ICs, but that's precisely why it sounds so darn good in O/D units!
  20. RHCP - Blood Sugar Sex Magic. Full of fosters and vinegar with a lovely loose approach to the production. I miss this in Their later stuff ☹️
  21. Another vote here for Grado headphones; awesome is indeed the correct term.
