  1. If it’s just for a wire to a socket then you don’t really need a massively highly specced iron (but a temperature controlled iron is a joy to use), I use one of these: more for the magnifying glass than the clips, as I’m old and my legs are bent, my ears are grizzled and my eyes are knackered etc... the bonus of using the crocodile clips is that they are a useful heat sink, so it reduces the risk of burning stuff.

  13. Just talk to lots of elderly people, that way you get the same story every hot, on the hour - just like the news. There really is no substitute for GQT though.
  14. Indeed, it got a bit ‘Swanee Kazoo’ in places. Most places in fact. Also, can I also point out that it’s a Soprano Recorder, and not, in fact, a flute?
  15. The Artist formerly known as Prince’s ‘Gold Experience’ album. Pure class from start to finish.
  16. Yes, a multimeter across the lead (red to tip, black to sleeve) will give you the output in millivolts as you play, but will fluctuate wildly with playing dynamics - the harder you hit, the greater the reading. you could also put your multimeter across the hot and ground connections on your pickup(s) too - this time measure the dc resistance of the pickup. Generally a jazz bass pickup will be anywhere from 6.5 to 8 ohms, but I’ve seen some up at 11. There’s more to it than this, but it’s a good indicator that a pickup is either ‘hot’ or not.

  21. Yeah, great for home and studio recording too though...
  22. Lyrically and instrumentally, the Smiths were awesome, Morrissey singing slightly sharp all of the time took me some time to get over.
