  1. Tone controls on passive instruments are a low pass filter, they work by cutting frequencies above a point defined by the tone knob; any passive circuit can only cut frequencies, not boost them. If you want to boost the top end then you’re going to need an external power source to create enough electrical energy to do that , so that’s an active system or outboard preamp.
  2. I use the box amplug - dead amp day, cheap and various models available. I went for the ‘clean’ guitar one, as the bass one was ok, but coloured the sound too much for my liking.
  3. Looks like it’s initially been roughed out by freehand routing, then left.
  4. “Do I need new gear or am I just bored?” you’re kind of new here, aincha...
  5. **SOLD** Bought this from another BCer recently, but a change in musical direction means that it’s no longer needed. not in the best condition underneath, and the battery holder is missing, but to be honest most of us use a power supply for our boards or use phantom power anyway. Works perfectly as a pedal, DI or preamp straight into a power amp. **SOLD**
  6. Just solo the neck pickup and you don’t need to buy another bass!! Ye gods, what am I saying?!
  7. The Frizzle Fry album from Primus. as you were.
  8. Bump for this as a bass or bits.
  9. 3. Fretless Jazz with extra Musicman pickup. Fretted Jazz with extra Musicman pickup. P/J with flats
  10. I’d give the Prunes & Custard a go, as it can get quite synthy, as can the ZVex Woolly Mammoth - there are plenty of clones around for less than £50, so shouldn’t be too much of an investment. The Mammoth is a great little fuzz, but doesn’t play well with active basses, so that might be a consideration for you.
  11. I saw Korn as a support band in the mid 90s and remember being very impressed with them. They were opening for Primus.
  12. Ooh, so whoever buys this can ‘self isolate’ for a fortnight?
  13. I like the two ‘mini cows’ either side of it, looks like it’s got its own backup singers.
  14. No, but there’s a guy in the pub who’s selling one like that...
  15. No harm, no foul. Replacing broken stuff gets a ‘pass’ I think.
  16. I’ve always preferred Dunlop’s to Schallers. Sure, you might need to drill a little bit deeper to fi them to your bass, but it’s not exactly a ‘faff’ is it?
  17. There's LOADS of Safeways out of Salford - nearest one being Manchester Deansgate. as far as I know the only Safeway IN Salford is just off Regents Road.
  18. Obvious place to start would be ‘kind of blue’ by Miles Davis, in fact I’d recommend any Miles album with Paul Chambers on bass, but that’s just me. Billie Holliday’s ‘songs for distingue lovers’ is a great album too, as the mix is great, and it’s not difficult to hear what the bass is doing and how it works with everything else.
  19. I’d be willing to pay extra for a bass that was guaranteed to have never been touched, let alone played by either Simmons or Sixx. That’s just me though.
