Now, to finalise back up stuff, I need a rechargeable battery charger.

Recommendations and/or links gratefully appreciated ta :)

Get a smart charger. The display on this one's a bit naff, but it's a good charger.

Agree with the suggestion of Eneloop rechargables.

  2. This is a FAQ in the Yamaha web site :)

  3. I bought a small bottle of Dr Ducks Ax Wax some time ago, and use it on everything - strings, frets/fretboard, saddles & chrome work, everything.

A little really does go a long way - I reckon this bottle will last longer than me...

The display automatically inverts when you turn it upside down.

I had a Snark which was OK but not very sensitive. I think the TC is better.
Ah, I see. It was really an observation on some I've seen - not the TC one specifically.

I'm surprised so many people are vouching for the tc clip-ons when you can't rotate them.

What bugs me too, is that I want it on the back of the headstock, but I don't want the display upsidedown!

So what guitar fx units are people using for bass?
I've a Zoom G1on. Some of the effects simulations are also in the B3.

    If it sounds good...

Was in Manchester PMT and they had sunburst Yamaha BB 1024x for £350. Great value. If I didn't already have one I would of bought it

Crikey Mikey - that's a stonkin' good bass for that money!

    Carlsbro TC60 ?

    Isn't that a guitar amp?
Doesn't count in this case. Unless your playing bass through it.
Dunno, it's an amp that I play bass through. But not the guitar combo that you probably have in mind. It's a head, like the one at

    http://media2.benesser.se/2013/10/IMG_2075.jpg

Hooked up to my BF Compact it sounds rather lush, and it's plenty loud enough for all but the largest of pubs. IMO, YMMV etc.

I used an Acoustic model 120 for years (until it caught fire, literally...) Which was rated 125W IIRC, and it was always plenty loud enough for the gigs I was doing at the time.

FWIW I think an awful lot of bands, even full on rock outfits, play far too loud.

With typical gain staging half way on many amps and with many basses equates to full power on louder notes. Plenty of amps have the gain stages set so that they reach full power well before noon with typical input signals, because people assume that if an amp is as loud with the master volume at 10 o'clock as another amp with the master at 2 o'clock, then the first amp must be more powerful. Sadly it isn't but it sells amps in shops and means we end up with lots of amps on the market where the second half of knob rotation is worthless as you're already at full power by then.

So which amps are "guilty" of this then?
My old Acoustic head definitely was. My LH500 definitely isn't.

Both good points and i'm aware of them, but those reasons are why i said i have never found a balance of volume between them. No one has wound a J that will balance out put at the bridge with a P at the neck.
I'd say Yamaha have pretty much nailed it with my BB1024.
