  1. The "matching" cabs, despite the 1600W (or is it 1000W ?) headline numbers, appear to be rated 250W continuous. Draw your own conclusions...

  4. Nothing specific, I'm afraid. I was hoping to be there, but something cropped up. The guitarist's a very good mate of mine - he text'd me earlier today saying that it went well, the cabs 'done the biz', and that the bass player, who also does the PA, was 'dead chuffed' with 'em. Not sure how he used them - he normally uses a conventional amp, through a BB2. Hoping to get to a gig next weekend...

Singer grabbed one by mistake once, and now uses it all the time, rather than the SM58 she used previously.

  7. I've done several transactions with Thunderbird, and every single one of them has been a total pleasure. A couple of sets of strings this time and, as usual, a totally painless deal from start to finish. And, to top it off, he even sent a couple of extra singles as well. One of the good guys, for sure. [/quote] I've played 414's and 424's, and I now own a 1024. While the differences seem small on the face of it, as a whole I found the 1024 to be a worthwhile step up. And they do sound different (for better or worse, depending on your tonal goals). Not knocking the 414/424 mind - they're bloody marvellous.

A lot of folks are initially put off using this type of unit when they hear the presets, IME. They mainly seem designed to showcase the most extreme capabilities of the various effects, rather than to be usable. But once you go beyond that, and tweak the various parameters to suit your own sound goals - just like you would with individual pedals - the results can be very good indeed. I've used a Zoom B9 gigging for a few years now, and more recently a B3, neither of which are just bedroom toys IMO.

  15. The only dealings I've had with them was when I bought an own-brand cheapo 12 string acoustic from them a while back. No problems at all. I'd buy from them again. (The neck's a bit on the chunky side, but overall it's surprisingly good for the money)
  16. I use Rotosounds on mine 'cause I like 'em. I find them too zingy at first, but that goes away very quickly (which is why some don't like them...) after which ISTM that they stay where I like them for ages - certainly months, rather than weeks, for me. I normally only change them when the intonation starts to get iffy.

[/quote] I used to do that when I used an old Carlsbro head. Just a master volume knob - no input gain control, and my Westone Thunder with the volume right up would sound overdriven. Back the volume off a bit, so it stayed clean normally. Dig in a bit for a nice bit of grind.

    I picked up a BB1024 a few months back, and nothing else has been played since. I'm seriously considering shifting everything else, and just getting another BB.

Electrically, they're normally parallel connections, both connected together. Unless they're unusual cabs, the only difference twixt the two (input & link) is how they're labelled.

  22. FWIW I really like the pickups in my Classic J. I do find the output a bit on the low side though, the J bridge PUP especially so. After a few emails back and forth with Alun Entwistle - who makes the stock PUPs, albeit to Overwater spec - I went for his standard JBX bridge PUP, just to try to equalise the relative outputs really, rather than to change the tone, and I'm really pleased with it. A touch brighter sounding than the stock one, but still has most of the smoothness that I liked and the output's a bit stronger so it's much more usable blended with the P PUP. And all for the princely sum of a tenner I've not tried the JBXN (I don't think it was available at the time I was looking) but reports are very good.
  23. FWIW my experience with Yamaha's EMX powered mixers has been great. Sound good, great VFM, reliable.
