I use a couple of soft nylon speaker stand bags. No idea who makes them - got them from amazon...under a tenner each, IIRC.
Moving this forward..can anybody planning on bringing a P Bass for the test put the following details on this thread in preparation for the day. Name/Brand of bass Country of origin Estimated original cost Fretboard - RW/M/other Strings - flats-v-rounds-v-other and steel-v-nickel (should we also consider brand?) Type of p/ups We may ask for more info later depending... Thanks
I could bring a Westone Thunder 1 along (is this allowed? It's not really a P, but it's like a P) Japan (1982, Matsumoku) RW fretboard Rotosound steel rounds Original single passive split P-style pickup - possibly a Di-Marzio knock-off...not sure. Will there be a prize for the heaviest bass known to man?

Thanks guys - I've had a PM from the seller, and he's actually OK with posting it. Trouble is - and no offence intended towards the guy - I'm not comfortable sending a sizeable sum of money to somebody with no posting history and no feedback. I'm sure that, given time, something could be worked out, but I'm going abroad this weekend and won't have time to chase around before I go. So I'm going to reluctantly forget about this for now. If it's still available when I get back, then I'll try to sort something out. Just unfortunate timing, but there you go cheers,

The story...there's a cab I'm interested in. It's in Cardiff and the seller (who has no feedback on here) would prefer collection. I'm 200 miles away On top of that, I'm off abroad this weekend. So...is there anybody willing to check out and collect the cab (I'll do a bank transfer straight away to somebody "known" on here) and hold on to it for a couple of weeks, then ship it to me when I get home ? cheers,

Collected some speakers from Gary today. Didn't try them out first - got 'em home and, sure enough, they work just dandy just like he said they did Cheers Gary - well chuffed! Top man.

Another here who plays a bit of 5 string. Only a very little bit mind, but good fun nonetheless ! I also dabble with 6-string, and mandolin, which makes for some 'interestiing' chord variations...

Gotta agree with Mr Discreet. /edit...and Lozz/ If you like your HA3500, there's a seriously good deal to be had on a nearly new HA5500 in the For Sale section. Keep looking at it myself...
So browsing on Facebook and I notice that Barefaced have released two new cabs while removing the 69er. From what I have read about them, they both sound like some amazing cabs! I'm certainly interested in hearing them! http://barefacedbass...Retro-Six10.htm
I don't really "do" Facebook, and didn't know about this. Thanks for the heads-up

Hartke LH 500 & Ampeg SVT 410, will I blow it...
barkin replied to Biaeothanata-Bassist's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think you'll find the LH500 is 350W @ 8 Ohms. The connections, at both the amp end and the cab, are parallel, so it'll make no difference whatsoever if you were to connect the two amp outputs to the two sockets on the cab using two cables... ...unless one of the cables were wired with reversed polarity at one end, in which case you'd be putting a short circuit across the amp output ! Nothing to gain, and potential to damage the amp or trip the internal protection circuitry. I wouldn't try driving the cab with 2 separate amps either... -
I stand corrected
I should be good for this, even if it's just for a couple of hours. It would be VERY helpful if someone would volunteer to pick me up from Hatfield station though
I could probably do that, depending on times etc. However...there's very limited parking at the venue itself, and the public car park I'll be using is about the same distance as the station, I think.
-
...and if you let us know where you are you may find somebody nearby, who has the other items on your shopping list and could let you see/hear 'em 'in the flesh', or offer a 'I've got one of those - I'm gigging at The Dog & Duck this weekend' kinda shout.

Avoid shipping anything musical with Myhermes
barkin replied to itsmedunc's topic in General Discussion
I've used them (Hermes) myself to send low value stuff, and I've bought quite a number of things that've been delivered to me by them, and I've not personally had amy problems. I have, however, had 'issues' with others that some are recommending as better alternatives... ISTM they're all much of a muchness. -

I replaced the stock bridge pickup in my Tanglewater Classic J with the Entwistle JBX (I think that's what it's called). I liked the actual sound of the stock J, but found it rather quiet compared to the stock P. Possibly the best tenner I've spent on bass gear.

Anyone using a stand to play while stood up?
barkin replied to Jezyorkshire's topic in Accessories and Misc
I have seen bands that, for songs that require changing from an acoustic guitar to electric, have the acoustic on a stand so they can play it while having their electric strapped on as normal, and can walk away from the acoustic without hassle. So, while I can't give any more detail I can say that stands do exist.
Ditto - I've seen Carlos Santana doing exactly that, but I can't offer anything more specific I'm afraid. -
When I had a 115 +210 setup I always put the 210 on top, otherwise I couldn't hear it...
Met with Mudpup (Jon) today and exchanged a bundle of notes for the cab in a traditional Basschat dodgy car park deal (thanks, Jon).
Phew ! I'd seen that Mudpup now had 2 babies, and was debating dropping him a PM about this. I thank you Mr Discreet, from the bottom of my wallet...
