No suggestions really I'm afraid, but I'll be interested in how it pans out. I've just got a used Zoom R16 which I'm intending to use for a similar setup to yours, but haven't got a round tuit yet...

For small gigs - pubs, small hall etc - ...we usually put just the vocals through the PA...occasionally a bit of kick drum. PA speakers go in front of the vocals, otherwise there's a tendency to get horrible feedback if you're playing anything like loud. We always use at least one monitor if space is very tight - more of space allows. Even if you're relying on backline for your sound, you'll get a certain amount of drums/bass/guitar bleeding through the vocal mics, which can add a bit of reinforcement to the FOH sound. re: setting relative levels etc...I use either a long lead or wireless, and wander out front for the soundcheck.. Set the levels as low as you can get away with. Most pub bands that I see play far too loud. If anything can't be heard, don't turn it up - turn everything else down! No doubt somebody will be along to tell me we're doing it all wrong, but it works for me Bigger gigs, with PA provided - you're largely in the hands of the soundman.

Have you tried bluearan.co.uk ?

For sale is my Zoom B2 multi FX unit. It's in full working order - just a small blemish to the finish - on the top, just above the left hand footswitch, but otherwise in good nick. Does the usual array of effects, amp/cab sims etc. Also has a very useable tuner, and a drum/rhythm function. Can also be used with headphones for silent practice. Full details at http://www.zoom.co.j...sh/products/b2/ Runs either on batteries (4 X AA) or a standard (centre -ve) 9V DC power supply. I have the original Zoom PSU, which will be included, along with the original manual and (slightly tatty) box. £30 delivered in the UK (bank transfer or cash please) or I'll knock a couple of quid off if it's collected from SG8. Cheers, -
I bought a mandolin about 6 months back. Looks remarkably similar to yours Gary, 'cept I got one with a pickup on it...like you do ! Been playing around with it through a Zoom B3 today, and you're right...it is a deathcore/metalcore instrument really

I'd go along with the jack connector as a possible culprit. I had an Ashdown cab once, that did exactly as described. I convinced myself it was the speaker, and even went as far as getting hold of a replacement driver for it, but it turned out all it needed was a new jack socket. 3 quid and ten minutes later...job done.

Just to add to what's already been said - just taken delivery of a P pickguard from Si. A more straightforward transaction one couldn't wish for. Cheers...

I just twiddle the knobs 'til it sounds good...which usually means leaving things as they were last time I used it, and just get on with playing. I couldn't give a rats if it's 'flat' or something else.
One of us visits the venue a week or more before the gig. It gives the owner a recognisable face to deal with on the night, allows us to see if we need to make any special provisions for power\cable runs and we put up the posters to save the owner the effort. That 10 minute visit has saved us a lot of mucking about on the night on many occasions.
This.

I use an EMX512, and IMO it's a bloody brilliant bit of kit ! 2 x 500W power amps, can be used one per side or, as I use it, one to drive the FOH and one for monitors. It only does a single monitor mix, but we only usually put vocals through the PA anyway, sometimes a bit of kick. The onboard effects are very usable (eg bit of reverb on the vox) and the single knob compressors sound surprisingly good if you don't go silly with 'em. A big plus for me, as sorting this stuff seems to be the bassist job by law, its simplicity. One box, mic's in the front, speaker leads in the back. Job done. And it sounds good too. Used ones seem to go for 200-250 wuid.

ICBW (don't really get this technical stuff) but I think it's single coil. Having said that, I swapped the stock bridge PUP in my Tanglewater Classic J for one of these, and it's quiet as a church mouse. (I think it was Tel's recommendation that prompted me to do so, in which case, I thank you sah... I'm sure there are better (whatever that means...) J PUPs out there...but for a tenner? There was nothing really wrong tonally with the stock Tanglewater PUP, but it was always a bit weedy compared with the P. Swapping in the Entwistle one has made it more balanced volume wise, added a bit more punch solo'd, and makes it sound more growly blended with the P.
My old Acoustic 220 head is like 26,5" wide Finding that wide bass cab is painful though - even most 8x10 are narrower.
Fits perfick atop a model 404, IIRC -
Yup - I had some of Rich's lovely thumbtests as well. Very pleased with 'em. Cheers Rich...top job.

FWIW, for a small vocal only PA in pubs etc, we use a Yamaha EMX powered mixer. Great bit of kit IMO.

I'm now the owner of Adam's Zoom R16, after a super smooth transaction. Couldn't be happier. Cheers.
