Looking at the photo on a proper screen now, rather than my 'phone, and it looks like the woodwork at the bottom of the driver - in the center, above the port slot - has been removed...possibly to accommodate a replacement driver ? Do you have access to a multimeter ? A quick google suggests that the DC resistance will be roughly 80% of the nominal impedance. I've just put a meter across a spare (known good) 8 Ohm Ashdown driver that I have here, and it measures between 6 & 7 Ohms. (Less than 8, more than 4...) I had one of these until fairly recently. Bought it from here as not working - in fact, it did work, but not very often! Lots of high pitched squealing, crackling etc...but in the short periods that it did work, I really liked the sound, so I took it to a local amp guy. He traced the problem to a combination of a dodgy pot, which no amount on Servisol would cure so he replaced it, and a dry joint on the preamp board or something. It also later developed an problem with the lead from the internal speaker to the jack that plugs into the speaker socket on the back, that led me to believe that the speaker was blown. It wasn't, which is why I happen to have a spare driver here...) Replaced the lead & jack plug and it was fine. Only reason I sold it really was the weight - it must weigh 30+KGs, and I can't be doing with that these days. I always preferred the old front ported Ashdown cabs to the newer rear ported designs. Whether that was the reason, or whether it's the amp itself, but IMO my old MAG400 was a definite class above later MAG rigs that I've used. HTH.

I think (corrections welcome) that they originally had the blue coned driver, so I'd be wondering if this has had the speaker replaced at some point. In which case, I'd check to make sure it's an 8ohm one in there before connecting an additional cab.

Just completed a slightly convoluted deal whereby Pablo, whom I've never met or had any dealing with before, sent me a rather large sum of money, so that I could go buy an Akai deep Impact from a guy just down the road from me, which I then forwarded on to Pablo. The whole thing was a pleasure from start to finish - with prompt, informative and friendly comms throughout, and everything done exactly how he said he'd do it, when he said he'd do it. Deal with confidence folks. The only downside? I'm now GASsing for a Deep Impact !

I'd have thought that for active you'd want instrument (screened) type leads, while passive would be best served with speaker cables. BICBW...

Active/passive bass? Does the amp have two different inputs? Despite what the needle's doing, does it sound OK?

Somewhere around '02 the band I was with at the time kinda drifted apart for a number of reasons, and after our last gig I didn't even pick up a bass for some 7-8 years. Just couldn't be arsed, which was possibly part of the reason for the band folding. I noodled around at home a bit with an acoustic guitar and developed a dirty banjo habit, but had no urge for the bass at all. Just stacked all my gear under the stairs and left it there... ...until mid 2010, when some mates got in touch asking if I'd be up for a one-off gig for a laugh in a local pub. So I did it, and had a whale of a time. The one-off scratch band is still together, getting more gigs than we can do, and I think I'm enjoying playing more than I've ever done. As others have said, if you don't wanna play, don't. Life's short mate - do stuff you do want to do.

[/quote] Similar-ish story here - I was looking at things at that sort of price point a while back, and after trying several MIM Fenders in a couple of different shops I just couldn't convince myself that I'd be spending my money wisely. Ended up taking a punt on a used Tanglewater Classic J from here (at half the price) which I'm very very pleased with.

Yeh - I thought BDI-21 too, and hasn't Loz already got one?

I bought a 2nd hand Zoom B2 for those occasions when a bit of fuzz/wah/flanger/whatever is called for, but won't get used enough to warrant a dedicated pedal.
