1. Saw these online recently - no idea what they're like, but the other Squier basses seem well regarded. http://www.dv247.com/guitars/squier-jaguar-bass-special-ss-candy-apple-red--85401
2. PM'd.
3.
No neck dive at all. Play like lightning. More tone than you could shake a stick at. You couldn't buy a better new bass for under £400 IMO
Don't know about the 1A - but I've a Thunder 1 (not active) and it'd take a silly amount of money to part me from it. Very nice neck, hot pickup (somebody once told me, or I read somewhere, that it's a Di Marzio or something. Don't know if that's true, but it sounds huge...) very solidly built, and now very naturally "roadworn" I love it to bits !
4.
How many of you gig cheap sub £100 basses?
My main bass is an '82 Westone Thunder 1. I've recently also been using a Ryder P, but only because the Westone is so heavy that it makes my left shoulder & arm ache after a while. It didn't used to bother me 20 years ago...
5. Still here. Last chance, before I change my mind and keep it.
6. If either connection presents the same load, then surely they must be parallel ? I suspect that, were you to look at the connections inside, you'd find that both (or all three in the case of the ABM cab referred to) are simply teed together in parallel.
7. 'tis indeed a great amp. I'm only shifting it because I don't use it, and I need the space. Still here - collection only. Could be interested in a trade for a Jazz bass of some description...Squier, SX etc.
8.
I want and PM'd
If this should fall through for any reason, I'll have it.
9. Up for grabs is my '70s, Watkins (WEM) valve combo. It's a Power Musette MKll - only 15watts but surprisingly loud, all valve, with a 12 inch (12 Ohm) Goodmans speaker. I'm not sure if the speaker is original - it's the one that was there when I bought it. It's identical to the Dominator MKlll, except it has a twin cone speaker which was supposed to make it more suitable when used for organ/accordion. Whatever, it's been sat under my stairs unused for the last 5-6 years, but I plugged my Strat in yesterday to make sure it all still works, and it sounds fantastic. Has a gorgeous warm yet bright tone at lower volumes, which progresses through to a classic overdriven bluesy sound as it's cranked up. Has 2 separate input channels, with volume, bass and treble controls, with an additional treble boost switch on channel 1. Some scuffs in the covering, mainly at the corners, but otherwise it's in pretty good nick considering its age. The bad ? It has the knob missing from one of the tone controls (see picture. Still works - just the knob missing) and a couple of the pots are a bit noisy and crackly. Looking for £120, collected from Cambridge. 10. Whereabouts are you ?
11. Selling an Acoustic 404 - the 1x15 one, not a 6x12. It's been gigged fairly regularly but infrequently since I bought it sometime around 1984 I think, and has a couple of minor scuffs & nicks in the covering, but overall it's in pretty good condition cosmetically, apart from a stain of some sort on the front grill that was there when I got it. Has the original Eminence driver I believe, which would make it 4 Ohm/125W, although I don't think there are any identifying markings on the driver unit itself. It's certainly not been replaced in the time that I've had it, and it sounds just like a 404 should sound ! Looking for £80 - collected from Cambridge. It's at the rehearsal space at the moment, but I'm hoping to pick it up over the weekend so I'll get some pics up soon. Any questions, fire away... Here's the pics. In addition the the description above, there's some rusting on the corner protectors, which I've tried to show in the photo. 12. Bought a cab from Martin. Good comms, and a very easy guy to deal with. Arrived well packaged, and as described. Wouldn't hesitate to deal with "Plyguy" again. Cheers Martin.
13. First "proper" setup in the early '80s was: Westone Thunder 1 Acoustic 120 head Acoustic 404 1x15 cab. The 120 went up in smoke during a rehearsal sometime in the mid '90s, and was replaced with a Carlsbro TC60 all-valve head. Sounds gorgeous, but runs out of steam at all but the smallest of pub gigs, so I've added a Hartke HA2500 amp. Still going into the Acoustic 404, and still using the Westone - I love that bass !
14.
Carlsbros are up and coming, now the others have all gone silly price, and they are well made as most amps of the period. People carving them up and converting to Marshall spec will continue the upward trend.
Mmm...I shan't be mod'ing mine. I've used it (for bass...) at small pub gigs with a 1x15 Acoustic 404, and it sounds just gorgeous as it is ! 300 quid? Really ? There seems to be a few models that were called the TC60. Mine's very similar to the one at http://www.gearfreak.dk/_publicpics/review...24EA3398448.jpg although the printing on the fascia of mine is different. Not that I'm planning on selling it...
15. Thanks folks - off to get a replacement IEC connector tomorrow.
16. Just taken delivery of a bass from Ben. Arrived well packaged, as described, and on the agreed day. A thoroughly painless transaction - wouldn't hesitate to deal with Ben again. Cheers matey !
17. Hi all, I've somehow managed to break the mains plug for an old Carlsbro TC60 amp, and I'm struggling to find a replacement I could replace the whole thing with a modern IEC connector, but I'd rather keep it original if possible and not have to faff around drilling the chassis etc. So, can anybody ID the connector in the pic below ? If I knew what it was called I might have a something to search for. The keyed part of the moulding is 22mm diameter, the holes that receive the pins in the chassis end are 10mm between centres, and the whole thing's 15mm long. If possible, I'd prefer one with the cable entry inline, rather than right angled like the one in the picture. cheers,
18. Cheers Watchman, Since I posted that we've used it for a small pub gig, hooked up to a couple of 8ohm Yamaha cabs. There are no markings on it regarding speaker impedance, but it seems to have survived with no apparent damage done, and it was plenty loud enough for what we want it for - basically just a couple of vocal mics, possibly one on the kick-drum. As you suggest, I think I'll ignore the slave outputs. If it gets to the stage where I need to consider them, it'll be time to look at a bigger/better PA anyhow. I was curious as much as anything. I was though, like you, rather surprised at the lack of info out there... Thanks for your thoughts.
19. Hi all, I've just acquired an old Carlsbro Marlin 6-300 PA mixer/amp - seems to work fine and will do us for vocals at small pub gigs etc. But..I've no manual or user guide, and can't find anything on the net about it. I've also asked Carlsbro, with no luck. I'm really just curious about a couple of things: Speaker impedance, just so's I don't do anything silly with it. There's a couple of sockets marked "slave" on the rear panel, next to the "preamp out" socket, and I've no idea what they're for. Very grateful for any info, or pointers. cheers.
20.
Sunday bump!
PM'd.
21. Whereabouts in Cambs are you ?
22.
New year bumpage...
Dammit - and I'm only just down the road. I'd have grabbed these if I'd seen them sooner...
23.
It's well worth it
I'm not sure the aggro from the Financial Controller would be worth it though ! Still thinking...
