Back up for sale! Bear with me on this one all (I'm still hesitant to let this beauty go, in my mind this is a lifetime keeper). I'm in a bit of a pickle financially and despite my best efforts to remedy things, drastic times (might) call for drastic measure....so, potentially up for sale (depending on interest) is my adored Performance Guitars Louis Johnson 'Dragon' Bass. http://www.performan...om&id=148&cat=8 Simply the most sublime instrument I've ever had the pleasure of playing, let alone owning. Sounds amazing, plays like butter and looks that kill. Specs: Model: Dragon Bass Body: Alder Neck & Finger Board: Hard Maple / Rosewood Frets: Medium Stainless, 21F Scale: 34" Nut Width Size: 1-3/4" Pickups: Bartolini MMC in Bridge position. Bartolini Jazz in Neck position. Pre-amp: East U-Retro Deluxe Control: Master Volume -Treble boost / cut -Bass boost / cut -Mid boost / cut (and variable mid sweep) -Ultra High boost / cut (pull / push) -Passive tone cut & passive bypass (push/pull) Hardware: Gold Finish: Tobacco sunburst satin finish Bridge: Badass II Additional Info: Designed by Louis Johnson, Face Jack, custom built (one of a kind), gold hardware throughout, reverse headstock. Weighs in at around 9lbs (if I recall - I don't have any scales to confirm that on). In near mint condition aside from one small ding on the front bottom corner (damn guitarist!) and some wear to the gold finish on the tuning pins. I bought this from Barrie (Molan) just over a year ago and aside from the a fore mentioned wear, it's in exactly the same state. Everything else is in top condition. Comes complete with hardcase and certificate of authenticity from Kenny Sugai. I'd like to get just shy of what I paid for it but as I'm in urgent need of money, I'd consider taking a bit less; let's start at £1700 and work from there. I would also consider a trade for a lesser bass (such as a Sandberg JM4 or the like) with cash my way to make up the difference. I'm happy to ship anywhere at buyers expense, but please ask for a quote first. I'll also happily deliver within a few hundred miles of Tunbridge Wells in Kent, if the buyer can cover my fuel costs. I've included the original pics from Molan's post and here's a few more 'arty' pics of the dragon: https://docs.google....azZXeElENXFlWkE
You've had this bass for 14 years and it took you 2 months to post it on here from when you joined? Tut tut. Also why did it take me 8 months to comment on it? Shame on me. I like it, reminds me of an SCG nanyo or an aria or something.
Hey man, yeah I'm still not convinced I want to sell it.....it's such a beauty, but when needs must, and since the acquisition of the Louis Johnson, it really is surplus to requirements -
Lots pf Tenacious D stage slide training must have worn the knees out of those those jeans...:-) Solid blues.
Haha, yeah you're not wrong. Sadly, I'm too old to handle the knee slides any more and have to settle for looking like I do instead Cheers -
Hi guys, Just a quick post to draw your attention to some live performance coverage of my latest band, Raw Peaches who headlined the On The Edge festival last Saturday at Temple Works in Leeds. If you like a bit of bluesy rock and funky soul, then check out a couple of our covers here: 'Use me': http://youtu.be/1IrC7__6y9o 'Hoochie Coochie Man': http://youtu.be/T8BwucObsYU I hope you like them If not, you can at least enjoy my somewhat unusual and 'funky' moves
haha.. yeah prob ok with external links... just amused me.. i kept scrolling down and the giant pictures kept beating me to it!! yeah i've never seen another six string one, pretty rare i think (i found mine in some backstreet music shop)... i was dabbling with six string basses at the time and it played loads better than a yamaha trb6 i tried.
LOL, sorry about that. I really haven't quite figured out the best way of inserting lots of large images... ...Hope you all had a nice weekend. Monday = bump & price drop day
someone didn't read the post about large attachments!!! nice bass.. i used to have a six string version of this and was surprisingly good quality and playability for a 'lesser' brand name... so have a bumpage!
Hey man, Thanks for the message and bump Does it count as attachment if it's a link in the post to an externally hosted image? If so....oops! Might have to remedy that and stick them on Photobucket or something where I can share a folder. I didn't know they made these in 6 string versions, but you're right about the playability and quality. Since first acquiring this, I've owned and sold; Squier Jazz, Cort C4H, Tanglewood Canyon 2, Vester Clipper, Yamaha RBX A2, Clover Xpression, Sandberg PM4, Warwick Corvette $$, MusicMan SUB, Lakland 44-02 Deluxe & a Spector Euro...to name just a few and the Tanglewood always came out on top. Perhaps not as versatile tonally as some of the others (although it is now with the East pre-amp), but always a delight to play and amazingly comfortable for a 9lb bass.

Tanglewood Baron (Limited Edition) Bass

This is now up for sale, here: Tanglewood Baron -
Ay caramba!! That is one stunning looking bass! I have a narrow width nut bass for sale, sadly I'd not be able to afford the £1200 cash adjustment I second the East (or other) pre-amp suggestion. The pre-amp can really make or break an active bass...there's some great ones out there if the stock pre-amp doesn't cut the mustard.
That Tanglewood is not what I expected, ive got a funny feeling it might have been made in the Cort factory as it looks very similar to the Cort Artisan basses. 4 strings aint really my bag tho, but good luck getting it shifted
Thanks man! Yeah, it's not like any other Tanglewood I've seen/played...totally in a class of its own. A few people have mentioned the Cort Artisan resemblance, must be something in it! Back to the post in question.....Sandbergs are just awesome instruments and well above their price point in terms of spec and build quality. At this price...it's criminal this is still here.
