I have a Fender JMJ Mustang with flats that gets 90% of the way there, and would certainly be good enough for playing live. However, when I do functions I tend to use my Callowhill, which has steels roundwounds on it, as I can get all the tones I need.

Clearly very versatile! The size would be a problem though, I've got a Moogerfooger and a bunch of other pedals on my board that aren't going anywhere

A great idea but I like dedicated pedals and building boards.

I've been considering what sounds I'll need for the functions when I'm back gigging and I decided some sort of pre-amp would be good for getting the Ampeg B15 sound for those old soul records, especially as I'm lucky enough to play in a soul band. I have a SolidGoldFX Beta which does a pretty good job but I've been hunting around and looked at the Darkglass Vintage Microtubes Deluxe. I'm well aware of Darkglass and what they do but they've always been sold as METAL overdrives. Every demo has someone playing a sick crushing riff about arguing with their mum, so I had written them off as not really my thing (don't get me wrong I LOVE metal, I just don't play it). But looking at the extensive tone shaping options on the Microtubes, it seems possible it could be more versatile than the demos make out. Has anyone used a Darkglass pedal to make more subtle, possibly even vintage-inspired sounds?

It is not, it's a slab body. The contouring only came in in the early 70s, and all the new ones, including the Japanese ones from the 90s/early 2000s are based off of the 60s design. I would've thought Fender would be keen to reissue the 70s design as its more ergonomic, and looking at the increase in demand for Mustangs (judging by the prices), I expect they will do so in the next couple of years.

I too have been lusting after an old Mustang. The Bass Gallery has had a couple of beautiful ones up in January and February, and there's some on Reverb. I imagine it's as much, if not more, of a crap shoot finding one you like as any instrument/amp/pedal. However, you'll probably make your money back as there is a thriving market for them, and the prices are steadily increasing. I have a 2018 Fender JMJ Mustang and its a lovely instrument to play and it sounds great. If it's a measure of brand new instruments, then the standard is high! However, it's based off a 1966 Mustang, so it could be a measure of vintage Mustangs, in which case... vintage instruments are great. I haven't played any of the new Vintera ones, but the specs are nearly identical to the JMJ, and they're built in the same factory.

It never does! and that's the fun! The QuarterMaster is great, I can set up a multi pedal sound and switch straight into it. And the Moog colours the tone even when it's bypassed. The expandable pedal board looks like exactly what we all need!!

This has been months in the planning/saving. Finally got the power system and the board itself this week and spent a few hours last night putting it all together. I am aware the Quartermaster is squint, I'm still waiting on a Bright Onion Pedals patch bay to mount underneath so I can plug in and out from one side. This board will be subject to change without notice.

I don't now exactly when/where it went through customs but it arrived in Stanford Le Hope yesterday, then Tamworth early this morning, then arrived in Edinburgh at about 8am. The board actually arrived today, despite the delivery date being pushed back. It sounds like something else is going on with your parcel, I hope they haven't lost it!

That sucks, especially for a reasonably pricey guitar. Hopefully it arrives soon. My pedalboard is in the Edinburgh depot and due to be delivered tomorrow, so fingers crossed! It implies that things are straightening out, albeit slower than we'd like!

I've just got an email saying my parcel is arriving tomorrow, which is great, and the predicted delivery date since a couple of days after I bought it. However, the latest "live" tracking info is from 4/5 days ago and says its in Germany... I'm glad its made it here, but would have preferred if the tracking was kept up to date.
