My pedal arrived Monday and had a few days to play around with it. First and foremost, my cats hate it. They slink away as soon as they hear it. HOWEVER, I love it. I honestly thought it would be just another fuzz with a lot of hype around and I was mostly getting it to complete my 3 Leaf Audio collection. But it turns out it's an amazing circuit. It's really responsive to dynamics, I particularly like tuning the Gain knob down and getting a tube-ish overdrive. It also goes hard, with it getting octave fuzz-like above the 12th fret. And synth tones to die for. Only thing I'm not getting my head round are the X-over and Your/You're switches. I don't hear much difference with the former, and the latter just seems to give a scooped sound. What they do isn't clearly explained in the instruction sheet. That said, the pedal sounds great. PS the lettering glows in the dark.

I have no idea about the engineering behind it but it's on their website and they posted a completed one in use on their Instagram page. I'm sure if you email Alex he will explain the science behind it.

Anyone got any experience with a Wilcock 4P-51?

In my humble opinion, there's no such thing as an 'Amp for Metal' or an 'Amp for Funk'. It's a lot about how you play the instrument and a little bit about how you set up the amp (if at all, I personally set the EQ flat, or a dip at 300Hz). Getting one you like the sound of is more important. I would try to play as many amps as you can, and/or watch reviews/demos.

A Super Compact or possibly Super Twin will cover a lot of ground and be louder than your Ashdown. Their 12XN speaker is designed not to colour your sound, making it a blank slate (of sorts) to cover the variety of tones you'll need in that type of band. I used a Super Compact for about 10 years and its a great do it all cab, and very easy to move around. Note you'll need to get an amp too, which will have an impact on your tone.

After a month of owning the Three10, here is my review. Construction Predictably solid. It's only been gigged twice, but I gigged the hell out of a Super Compact for 10 years, so I expect this to be the same. The wheels on the bottom make moving it dead easy, and the handles on the top and sides make it easy to manoeuvre when the wheels won't do. I'm still in two minds whether to get a cover for it. Sound I had a One10 until very recently and enjoyed that tone, so I knew roughly what I was going to get. The sound is very deep and warm without getting muddy. I use flats on pretty much all my basses, so I'm not chasing a super bright and detailed tone, but I get excellent definition and clarity from the cab. I did ask for it to have a tweeter, in case I missed the top end. However, I'm finding I usually have it all the way off, or maybe at 50%. In terms of volume it has fair solved the issues I was having before of not being able to hear myself on gigs, being both taller and having more speaker area. Conclusion It's a great sounding cab and it's easy to transport (fits in the back of my Fiesta with room for everything else), which is about all I ask of a cab. It is perhaps a little more expensive than other brands, but it is a small company, and frankly I can't think of anything that is a direct comparison in terms of features and performance.

I has fully checked out of 3 Leaf as the scalping and futile attempts at buying anything had really put me off (I have 4/5 of his pedals from the last 10 years anyway). I only remembered about it at about 6pm but thought I'd check it out anyway. I just kept clicking on buttons and suddenly I had one in my basket and was filling out my address. Fully expected to get an "Out of Stock" notification, but it all went through. Maybe he's finally cracked it.

If your question is, why do I use a 50W amp when the cab can handle 750W dirty and around 1000W clean, the answer is I use the Ampeg at home because it sounds nice and I wouldn't get to use it otherwise. I used it live with my previous Super Compact a couple of times and it had to be driven pretty hard just to be audible. For the last 6/7 years I've used a Mesa D800 live, which puts out 800W. However, as discussed above, I may try the Ampeg live with the Three10 at some point, but I'm not expecting much. As you say, it is only 50W, and even 50 TUBE watts don't go that far. The question niggling at me now is, why use such a small amp with such a big cab... I need a bigger 800W amp!

I might try it out on my wedding gig next week, though its a 6/7 piece soul band so it may still not be loud enough!

I've gigged the PF-50T a couple of times but it's only 50 watts and it just can't keep up with a band and stay clean. Live I use a Mesa D800. It's either more bass or less upper mids. Alex has said that their cones take a while to break in so we'll see how it sounds in a few weeks.

So after some hassle with the courier delivering to the address down the road that is one word different to mine (not the first time; I have complained) I have the Three10. The true test will be on a gig (I have two in a couple of weeks), but my initial impressions are good. The tone is what I expected: overall very warm, a little less upper mids than my Compact, a touch more bass, but just the right amount of the right kind of highs (IMHO). I've played around with the tweeter and not heard a massive difference with it on or off, but I play with flats and no wild effects, so frankly I'd rather have a mellow tweeter. The wheels and handles mean its not much more awkward to move than the Compact, though I did not enjoy carrying it the hundred or so metres back to my flat! Plus it matches my office.

I got the email from DPD today that it is on its way, so should arrive next week.

How do you find the DCX bass? I find it a bit weird. not quite a distortion, not quite a fuzz

There are absolutely lots of great examples of them being used well, Mr Chancellor being one of them. My post makes me sound like a d**k (sometimes this is true), but I actually do appreciate a well placed filter. They just tend to be a bit over used IMHO, and used as a substitute for good playing.

I kind of agree that envelope filters are very niche. I personally find very little use for them and I rarely hear many bass players use one tastefully, if at all. To me they are definitely associated with 19yo in college getting their first pedal. Personally I think its drive, octave and compressors that are the most prevalent on bass players' boards.

I have a Three10 on order and it *should* be due this week. I will update when it arrives.
